Default Re: British Army L129A1 7.62mm Sharpshooter rifle.

It's not a sniper rifle, its a semi-automatic, 7.62mm battle rifle with optical sights (as pretty much all modern army rifles now have). It is more along the lines of a more accurate, longer ranged (800 yards) and updated L1A1 SLR, than a actual sniper rifle.

The actual standard British sniper rifle is the bolt action 8.59mm L115a3 that has an effective range of over 1,100 yards.

It is also available to all regular infantry sections, as a replacement for the unloved 5.56mm Light Support weapon that is now only used by reserve forces.

A typical infantry fire team (ie, half section) as of today is two SA80A2 (one with grenade launcher) assault rifles, one 7.62mm Sharpshooter rifle and one 5.56mm minimi light MG. At platoon level there is also a L16A2 60mm mortar.
