There is also BLENDER at
www.blender.org which is not a ray tracer, but is a complete integrated 3D rendering program in it's own right. It used to have some functions held back for a registration fee, but is now 100 percent functional and free. It's not any easier to use than Povray/Moray, I'm afraid.
3D graphics are not a simple subject. What we really need is someone to post the "source code" for a ship set or two so us dummies can have a starting point.
Well, I wish I knew the secret to getting links to appear in Messages here. FOr some reason the bboard thinks it has to stick a zillion control codes in any html I add to the message, and it ruins the html..
