The weapon has a small HEAT value (1) - which will be used in close assaults. This, together with the WH size for HE penetration at range, gives it a

Myself, I prefer the rifle grenadiers to the ATRs, and use it as as a platoon scout which can lob some HE when required as suggested above (ranged to 1 with the Y key in the initial battle).
The Germans suffer from poor infantry ATK capability in the early war, just like most of the other nations. Some units do have access to grenade bundles, which are also marginal. But proper AT grenades and AT mines etc come along reasonably soon. Up till then you will have to do what the Germans did historically - support the infantry companies with armour, or the 3.7cm PAK.
