Default AATF: Reviews!

Bill Macon's review of Air Assault Task Force has been posted at The Wargamer.

Quote:
As a realistic simulation, Air Assault Task Force does a good job allowing the player to progress through the phases of an air assault: the staging plan, the loading plan, the air movement plan, the landing plan, and the ground tactical plan. To be successful, the player needs to think through the tactics for each of these phases and the overall strategy for accomplishing the mission. This is challenging enough by itself, and further complicated over time depending on what the enemy does and how well the player can react. Players are completely free to do whatever they want, and to try new plans to see if they can get better results. That is the beauty of a wargame, and this wargame has what it takes to be interesting and addictive...

In conclusion, Air Assault Task Force is a great wargame. It looks good and plays well right out of the box. After playing around with it for the past couple of weeks, there were no noticeable bugs or technical issues to report... Anyone interested in air assault operations and modern tactical-level combat should definitely consider adding Air Assault Task Force to their collection.

Armchair General awards Air Assault Task Force a score of 87%! Reviewer Larry Levandowski writes:
Quote:
Air Assault is a great way for players to experience some of the danger and challenges of conducting an air assault without actually participating in the real thing. The game has a strong professional military pedigree, making it just as much a command simulation as it is a war game. This might seem a steep slope to climb for those without military experience, but once the player becomes familiar with the concepts, they will start to wonder why more war games aren’t designed this way.

For our gamers in Belgium, the March issue of Pc Gameplay Magazine features a review of AATF. According to my amateur translation, reviewer Peter Van Wichelen writes:
Quote:
Summarising we can state that AATF is indeed the most realistic simulation in the genre...

Review at Flash of Steel:
Quote:
This is a very good game even without tanks, but it won’t make you like the ProSim games if you don’t already like them. In a way, they are the HPS of real time wargaming. If you sign on accepting the limitations, as I have, then you will find something to applaud. It is neither a pretty game, nor a friendly game. But the ProSim series is easily the number one modern wargame system on the market today. AATF is a pleasant reminder that warfare is an unpleasant business.

Default Re: Another Review!

James Allen recently posted his review of AATF, awarding a score of 6 out of 8 ("Buy it if you like the genre") and writing:
Quote:
Air Assault Task Force takes the ATF engine and adds some meaningful improvements that make the game more usable and more approachable than previous titles. The unique setting and theme is enough to draw some attention to the game and the focus on helicopter operations is refreshing. ... The game editors and ability to import scenarios from other ProSim games extends the life of the title and also means that there are already hundreds of scenarios for the game. Joining a multiplayer game is very easy and the in-game browser is one of the best proprietary engines seen in a wargame. The inherent complexity of Air Assault Task Force won’t appeal to everyone, but gamers looking for a unique approach and a focus on helicopter operations will find a lot to like in this title.

In the latest Line of Depature fanzine (Issue 59/Spring 2007) Jim Werbaneth kicks off the issue with an in-depth review of Air Assault Task Force.

As one can expect from Jim he provides a thoughtful analysis of the game and provides wonderful insights into strategy.

"Air Assault Task Force maintains the high standards established by earlier titles in the series...the game is as good as any in the series; accurate, realistic, educational, and enjoyable." --from his concluding paragraph.
