Default Impressions

Played the game, a was very pleasantly surprised by it. Wow, I say! What an atmosphere, what a vivid, living world created and conveyed with such minimalistic means.

Played as necromancer, enjoyed it a lot.

I only have a few comments, I understand that the game is way too old and noone will improve it, but still:

1) Feedback - knowing which monster does what is impossible before actual combat, and that is a pity. Also, knowing what benefit the defender gets from certain terrains would be quite helpful too. Much of the playing is pure guesswork, but it can be a good thing too.

2) Combat mechanics - the defender always attacks first, which is an enormous (unfair?) advantage.

Otherwise, it's surprisingly solid and good game! Thumbs up!

Be sure to check out the game they followed it up with. Dominions (now Dominions 3).
Not that I would always jump into a thread to make such a pitch but based on your description of what you liked about CoE I would suggest that you might want to at least grab the demo on Dom3

I do have Dominions 3, bought it six months ago. But Dominons is a really overwhelming game sometimes... this one is more simple and can be played as a relaxation :-)

Setup your Dominions_3 games with Victory Points... this will prevent the game from lasting forever.
