Default (Tank) Crew Spotting

Just wondered if crews from tanks or other vehicles could spot better when outside. That is, if they were to (temporarily) abandon the tank, would they be able to see enemy units--especially ATGs--any better? This would be useful in advance scenarios w/o infantry (like DAK #177, 5 Pz in Action). Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that in general, leg units spot better than vehicles, and that would include crews.

If you pop out inside LOS of an enemy - you may be machine gunned as you dismount. If not killed, you may well be driven away from the parent vehicle for a while.

Crews however are smaller than vehicles and may well spot a little better than even an unbuttoned AFV. But if you get a mortar round on one, you can lose an expensive vehicle, like say you dismounted a tigers crew for a quick shufti.

What I sometimes do is to zip up a fast Jeep or scout car to a covered location and then dismount the crew the next move and then slowly work the crew forwards as a spotter. For example - dismount behind a row of buildings, or a tree line or a ridge. But only if the scout vehicle is one without a separate scout team.
