Default All ships treated the same?

Wondering if the different ships in the same class are treated the same in terms of gameplay.

For instance, is the USS Nevada considered the same as the Yamato class of battleships?

Yamato is definitely more capable than the Nevada. All the ships have their historical number and caliber of guns, armor (deck and belt) and tonnage. The ratings for each ship are listed in the full manual for the game (you could also see them by digging through the .xml scenario file). The Yamato's guns will do more damange than the Nevada's, it's armor will protect it better, and it's size will allow it to take more damage before sinking.

The number of size of guns are shown with the ship, and the relative sizes of the graphics are accurate, but everything isn't boiled down to a single "gunnery factor" or something similar because I didn't want to encourage min-maxing.

The commanders at the time knew the Nevada wasn't a match by herself for the Yamato, but what about Nevada and West Virginia? Or Nevada and three or four CAs? Players will have to come up with their own ideas about that.

(plus, naval combat was never entirely predictable. It appears that the heavy cruiser Chokai was crippled at the Battle of Samar by a single 5-inch gun that set off the torpedoes still in their tubes on her deck).

Thanks,
John Hawkins
