Default British Army L129A1 7.62mm Sharpshooter rifle.

This rifle started being used by British troops in 2011/12 in Afghanistan, mainly because 5.56mm rounds are of very little use at ranges much over 300 yards.

It is issued as a 'marksman's rifle' (ie, below a full sniper weapon) at section or platoon level. It is accurate out to 800 yards, but can also be used at much closer battlefield ranges. UK purchased over 500 in total and they are still available having been made 'core' kit.

In game terms every section should have one from 2012 in place of the less effective 5.56mm LSW, with Para and Marine Commando units getting an extra rifle per company. The rifle can use an under barrel grenade launcher and is fitted with optical sights.

The, never very popular, 5.56mm Light Support Weapon version of the SA80 is not much used any more by regular infantry forces -although reserve units do still use it- having been mostly replaced by this rifle.

Unit 622, 686, 715, 727, 740, 741 already have the option of a sniper rifle... A sniper rifle is a sniper rifle in the game, whether a 303 to 7.62 conversion or something more modern.

.303, 30-06, 7.62 ... all pretty identical in terms of ballistics and range.

It's not a sniper rifle, its a semi-automatic, 7.62mm battle rifle with optical sights (as pretty much all modern army rifles now have). It is more along the lines of a more accurate, longer ranged (800 yards) and updated L1A1 SLR, than a actual sniper rifle.

The actual standard British sniper rifle is the bolt action 8.59mm L115a3 that has an effective range of over 1,100 yards.

It is also available to all regular infantry sections, as a replacement for the unloved 5.56mm Light Support weapon that is now only used by reserve forces.

A typical infantry fire team (ie, half section) as of today is two SA80A2 (one with grenade launcher) assault rifles, one 7.62mm Sharpshooter rifle and one 5.56mm minimi light MG. At platoon level there is also a L16A2 60mm mortar.

In the game, it's a sniper rifle. We don't have a DMR.

It's now in. It's an "enhanced" battle rifle, a marksmans weapon. We've added stranger things to the OOB's. It's not going to be a deciding factor on who wins or loses

Thanks. I'm not one of those people who requests orbat game changes because a dozen examples of a .45 pistol were issued in place of a 9mm on one deployment...

I don't think it is a game changer, but it will give every infantry section two full power, enhanced accuracy rifles able to engage at twice the range of a standard 5.56mm assault rifle.

That and the 60mm mortar at platoon level are fairly important changes. Actual sniper rifles and 7.62mm GPMG's remain battalion weapons, although often dished out to Companys. .50 Heavy MG's and 40mm GMG's are also available but are only 'standard issue' to Royal Marines and Paras.

Early in 2016 there was some talk of ditching both the minimi light MG, and the platoon 60mm mortar, but so far as I can find, nothing came of that, probably because recent cuts in overall British Army strength have left the Army with lots of some weapons. This is, I believe in my cynical way, one important reason for Infantry battalion 81mm mortar platoons being increased from 6 to 8 tubes.

The only other change I would note is that UK Armoured Infantry battalions now have two rather than one Warrior IFV's in the Company HQ (ie, x 14 vehicles to a company). Seasons greetings btw...

Well one problem you're going to run into with this is WinSPMBT limits a section to 4 weapons maximum, so which do you want to remove ... the 2x Minimi, the LAW, or the 40mm GL to add the Marksman rifle?

There are already sections with such, and as they are meant for fighting insurgents, its the anti tank that goes.

Hi
I don't see it in the current OOB. It is in the new one that you are working on?
Thanks
