Default Map changes? Can it be done?

What I want to do is have a clear graphic on the automap to show exits and also treasure and monsters. Something like flashing 'dots'.

It's hard sometimes to find the exits to a level. Also if you leave items on the ground do to lack of room, you have to explore the whole level again to find them.

So I guess my question is this can the automap graphics be changed to include flashing 'dots' to show exits, monsters, and items?

The other thing I want to do is make a 'spell' that will convert items into gold. It's a pain in the butt to get stuff and then have to haul it all the way back to town. I'm thinking about something like Dungeon Siege's TRANSMUTE spell. Can this be modded into the game using the spell .TXT files?

Default Re: Map changes? Can it be done?

1: I don't think flashing dots are possible on the map, but you can set the color that is displayed on the map for a certain terrain in the XXXX_terrain file. (by giving the rgb values). So you could give the exit/entrance and maybe some specific tiles that are close to the exit very bright and unusual colors so they will be easy to find (some of the exits/entrances in the crack of doom are marked this way) . You could do the same for chests, or other places to put items. (maybe only for closed chests, if you only close chests with your items in them and leave others open, you could find them back easily)

2: I don't think such a spell is possible without hardcode changes, haven't looked into it though. Great idea btw.
