Question Mopping up

Hi folks - Recently reinstalled SPWW2 and found my way here! Thanks for a great game guys.

Quick question: Is it better (ie more points at game end) to "finish off" a routing enemy squad or let them rout off the map? Is there a difference in points gained?

If they get off the map, you don't get their points so better to take as many as you can

Seems somehow unfair, especially if there are not enough VP to give a victory and you are forced to destroy the enemy but he simply runs away and pushed the game into a draw.
Of course not the same amount of points like a destroyed unit would give but for a unit fleeing off map some points(let's say 25%) would be good.

I wonder if that ever happens though..., I have never seen a human opponent "simply run away", and never seen the AI do it either...

If you do 25 points of damage to a tank that you did not kill outright then that is still 25 points to you. If you did 6 points damage to an infantry element, ditto.

Each damage point inflicted gives you (or him) one point.

cheers
Andy

Happens in PBEM campaigns, its actually quite difficult making an effective fighting withdrawal.

That's just about what happens you get points for damage but you really need to kill it to get the full score.

Another reason to always plan for encirclement or deep flanking.

Several times have had units retreat, whether it was my opponent's intention or not.
Mopping up can add to your score and self esteem, but be wary of rear assets like rallied units and AA and AT guns.
