Default TFW - Tumbledown

The printed manual states that the Tumbledown scenario is playable as British and Argentine - I can only find the British option?

I have a problem with the two units marked in the first picture. They are stuck and no matter what direction I try to send them, they will not move?

An other problem is getting units through the gap marked in the second picture. Their paths follow the road/track and they are set to bypass obstacles. But still they get stuck at the rocks making new paths running back and forth?

Recently I have read a book stating that a 4" naval gun would equal a light gun battery in firepower! In game it seems the other way around?

Shorty,

There is a patch in the works to fix the stuck units problem.

If you select "Imported Scenario" from the opening menu, you will see the "play-as-Argentia" version of mount tumbledown listed right after the normal version.

The claims about the four inch gun are based on rate of fire. You have to fire 6 bullets from the 4" to equal one battery mission from the 105s. I think this is replicated accurately in TFW. Just up the number of volleys to 6. (You can fire six bullets in the time it takes a batter to fire one volley of six.)

Is the patch for all titles? I have experienced similar problems in ATF.

The scenario you mention is the "Counter Attack" mission. The manual states the both the historical and the what if scenarios are playable as British and Argentine?

Thank you for clearing out the 4"/105 mm issue. It just occurred to me that the 4" is automated, obviously resulting in a far higher rate of fire.

Not ALL of the missions are playable as both sides in single player. If you use the "Imported Mission" selection menu, you will see the ones that are playable as argentina indicated right next to their "play-as-British" counterparts.

The patch corrects the scenario issue which causes units to start in terrain they cannot move in. This is an issue specific to just a couple of scenarios in TFW.

The printed manual on page 126 say the Tumbledown (historical) scenario is "played as the British and Argentines".
I take it that it is a simple editing error.

Shorty,

I think we are talking past eachother.

Mount Tumbledown IS one of the scenarios you can play as either side. When you start the game, slect "Begin Imported Scenario." From the menu of scenarios, pick "Mount Tumbledown (Argentina)." THAT IS the argentina version of the tumbledown scenario.

We are talking past each other. The manual list four scenarios:

- Tumbledown (historical) played as British.
- Tumbledown (historical) played as Argentine.
- Tumbledown (what if) played as British.
- Tumbledown (what if) played as Argentine.

But as I said, probably a simple misprint.

There is both a british and argentinian "what if" scenario on Mount Tumbledown, as well. If you select "Begin a Camaign Mission," and then select "What If Missions," There are two mount tumbledown missions listed:

Quote:
Counterattack on Mount Tumbledown (1). This scenario expands on the Historical Tumbledown scenario. This event actually came very close to happening. During the closing stages of the Battle for Mount Tumbledown the local Argentine commander requested permission to lauch a counterattack against the Scots Guards. He was refused permisson and the counterattack never happened. This scenario assumes that the local Argentine commander was allowed to mount his counterattack.Played as the British.

Counterattack on Mount Tumbledown (2). This is the Counterattack on Mount Tumbledown (1) scenario flipped from the British to the Argentine side and expands on the Historical Tumbledown scenario. This event actually came very close to happening. At around 0800hrs on the morning of 14 June Commander Robacio of the 5th Marine Bn was organizing a counterattack. The unit involved was O CoY, 5 Marine Bn commanded by Captain Quiroga. Before Commander Robacio could complete his preparation he received orders from Brigadier General Joffre's Chief of Staff, Colonel Aguilar to evacuate Mount Tumbledown. The planned counterattack never happened. This scenario assumes that Commander Robacio's counterattack takes place. In this scenario some of the friendly forces on Mount Tumbledown are not locked in place at the start of the game. Feel free to make changes to the deployments if you wish. Played as the Argentines.
In short, the manual is correct. There are 4 tumbledown scenarios. 2 are british, 2 are argentinian.

Really talking past each other.
The one I cannot find is Tumbledown (historical) played as Argentine. When selecting "Begin Imported Scenario" I only see:
"Mount Tumbledown" - historical played as British.
"Mount Tumbledown (Argentine)" - what if played as Argentine
"Mount Tumbledown Counter Attack" - what if played as British.

OK. I understand your question. You have to talk slow and use small words with me.

You are right. There are only three total scenarios. The one "What If" Argentina scenario allows you to play BOTH the actual battle and, if you choose, the "what if" scenario of reinforcing Mount Tumbledown rather than retreating. So, I guess, both Argentina situations are technically there.

But you are right that the manual is very misleading. Sorry for the confusion.

You could, however, very easily make the argentina what if scenario into a defense only scenario. You would just delete the reinforcements and change the victory conditions to reflect the lower number of argentinian troops. Just a thought if you are interested in tinkering with it.
