Default Question about CB fire...

When one of your off map artillery troops successfully counter-battery an enemy artillery unit, does the enemy unit have reduced effectiveness even if it isnt destroyed (for example an enemy artillery battery receives 6 hits, does that mean they've lost some tubes and as a concequence they fire less rounds or something?)

Default Re: Question about CB fire...

Once it returns from retreat status, it will usually have damage, though some CB results are purely morale ones like with other soft targets.

Damage reduces rate of fire. Try checking out one of your own on-map arty pieces once it is re-crewed with casualties. A damaged 81mm mortar section might only get 1 shot, not the full whack.

Damage of 50% or more usually results in that depleted unit being crippled (pinned) and if it does not reduce the suppression, it will have even fewer shots. That applies equally to off-map arty. I have definitely seen batteries that have been whacked earlier in a game producing less "bangs on target" than their healthy compatriots.

Also, CB fire can delete a gun sometimes more, and once all guns go (or the damage points equal the total hit points) the battery is destroyed.
