Default A look at explosives and bombs ratings

********************
Let's start by looking at some flame weapons.
********************

Flamethrower
Whd = 45 HEP = 0 HEK = 25 APP = 0 HEAT = 14

VehFlamethrower
Whd = 45 HEP = 0 HEK = 40 APP = 0 HEAT = 25

Napalm 250
Whd = 3 HEP = 5 HEK = 50 APP = 0 HEAT = 0

Napalm 500
Whd = 5 HEP = 10 HEK = 100 APP = 0 HEAT = 0

Molotov (Wpn #119 OOB #8)
Whd = 3 HEP = 4 HEK = 4 APP = 222 HEAT = 9

Fire Bomb (Wpn #117 OOB #8)
Whd = 35 HEP = 10 HEK = 25 APP = 222 HEAT = 10

I find it curious that the Molotov has a HEP rating when neither a Flamethrower nor a VehFlamethrower do.

I find it curious that Molotov's and Fire Bombs have an APP rating when neither Flamethrower nor a VehFlamethrower do.
Both Flamethrowers and VehFlamethrower are frequently not the #1 weapon in a unit/vehicle and could use an App = 222 rating.

********************
Let's move on to explosives.
********************

Hand Grenade
Whd = 3 HEP = 1 HEK = 6

81mm Mortar
Whd = 4 HEP = 1 HEK = 11

120mm Mortar
Whd = 5 HEP = 2 HEK = 19

Satchel Charge
Whd = 10 HEP = 18 HEK = 20 APP = 0 HEAT = 15

100kg Bomb
Whd = 10 HEP = 4 HEK = 20

250kg Bomb
Whd = 25 HEP = 6 HEK = 50

500kg Bomb
Whd = 50 HEP = 8 HEK = 100

1000kg Bomb
Whd = 100 HEP = 12 HEK = 200

MON-50 Mine (Wpn #60 OOB #22)
Whd = 5 HEP = 0 HEK = 15

Claymore Mine (Wpn #118 OOB #12)
Whd = 5 HEP = 0 HEK = 15

Frag Bomb (Wpn #116 OOB #22)
Whd = 5 HEP = 2 HEK = 15 APP = 222 HEAT = 2

Anti-Tank Mine (Wpn #118 OOB #22)
Whd = 10 HEP = 9 HEK = 6 APP = 222 HEAT = 20

Pole Mine (Wpn #119 OOB #8)
Whd = 10 HEP = 10 HEK = 6 APP = 222 HEAT = 18

Bomb (Wpn #122 OOB #8)
Whd = 10 HEP = 15 HEK = 50 APP = 222 HEAT = 15

Improvised Bomb (Wpn #21 OOB #17)
Whd = 20 HEP = 15 HEK = 50 APP = 222 HEAT = 15

Dynamite (Wpn #117 OOB #22)
Whd = 10 HEP = 19 HEK = 21 APP = 222 HEAT = 15

Booby Trap
Whd = 5 HEP = 2 HEK = 8 APP = 222 HEAT = 2

Suicide Vest
Whd = 4 HEP = 1 HEK = 20

Fertilizer Bomb (the standard IED in WinSPMBT)
Whd = 96 HEP = 3 HEK = 192

I find it curious that the Frag Bomb is a near copy of the Claymore/Mon-50 yet it has HEP, APP, and HEAT ratings.

Apparently the Bomb, Improvised Bomb, Dynamite, and Satchel Charge are similar - yet the Bomb and Improvised Bomb have over twice HEK rating (thus presumably explosives) of Dynamite or a Satchel Charge.

The standard WinSPMBT Booby Trap is apparently a weak 120mm mortar round (1/2 the HEK).

Your friendly neighborhood Suicide Bomber apparently packs the equivalent of an 81mm mortar shell with twice the explosives (HEK rating).

Your average IED is a Fertilizer Bomb ... and an impressive bomb it is !
It compares VERY favorably to the standard 1000kg aerial bomb !

Some thoughts here

Seems to work pretty well more chance of a suppress result than a kill, representing caution looking for it. Oops did get a kill fond it in that 50metre hex.

If he survived can assume he detonated on top of target?

Okay possibly another smaller one should be available but doable with diesel & a few extras, tricky bit is hidding it & having the blast hit effectivly.

Booby traps are can be made out of pretty much anything, so it would be hard to settle on a right value. Perhaps it could be built around hand grenade value, as it would be the most easy/common item, but no big deal.

The name should not be taken too literally, it could be that or something else. There have been quite a few massive IED used in Iraq, made with multiple heavy shells (240/155/152mm) linked together and buried, powerful enough to rip apart an Abrams and send its turret flying away. I had proposed the addition of an intermediate size IED to simulate the more common types (one or two arty shells emplaced near the road) but the big bang types have been definitively been used.

I agree booby traps work pretty well as is. I'd considered that perhaps they should be closer to 81mm mortar values, but mines function quite well as in-hex-only explosives.

While I think the current Fertilizer Bomb works very nicely as a truck bomb or the rare huge IED I think it's much to powerful to represent your average one or two shell IED.
