Default some (beginner) questions

i want to change some unit graphics in the game.
i read the stuff in my doc folder, but couldn't find any info about modding.

1. (if possible) how to extract unit graphics from the game ?
2. how do i add the new unit graphics to the game ?

To create a graphic all you need is a program that can make and edit TGA files (I asked where to get one previously, here's link to Q&A: http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...t=1#Post365524 )

More complete and competent answers will come within the next couple of days.

There are some sites you can download useful doc from.
E.g. the official modding manual you can get from the shrapnel site http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/d2/6.htm
Check the links in the pinned thread for more.

Some more specific answers:

to 1): you take screenshots ingame with completly black map. (someone made a savegame for that, complete with map etc. Called "unit view" or something, IIRC) You'll only get the 'standard' pose, though. The 2nd (attack) pose you'll have to do by yourself. (or borrow the graphics from another mod...)

to 2): Depends on what grahpics you want to add. The 'gui' has been changed before, don't have a link ready. For units, there's a modding command that lets you assign graphics. Other graphics you can't change.

ok i finally managed to change the unit's graphics but when i see it ingame it looks kinda blurry.
maybe the size is wrong... i dont know. it would help me a lot if i could get the witch hunters standard graphics to see how big i have to draw him, but i can't find that savegame you mentioned.

Some hints: Change the Filter (Video Options) OFF. Play the game in windowed more (Alt+Enter in Windows, also an option on the Video Options, or possibly some other options screen; -w parameter on command line). And take the screenshot from the Unit Description window. If you are not using black map as background, set GUI Opacity (again from Video Options) so as the unit graphics doesn't change. 100 IIRC the meaning of the word correctly, 0 if I don't.

When you do this, you will get the units' true pixels (windowed more has preset height/width, in which the units' size is as they should be in custom TGAs), with very minor changes in its coloring. Hopefully, I'll post a guide soon.
