Default A question about models and textures

So, I'm considering doing new models for Star Fury as well as adding new textures, but...

I don't know which format Starfury uses...Can I make models in 3D Studio MAX and export as .3ds or? What? Textures are in BMP I guess...

What polygon counts are feasible for Starfury without it getting cloggy? Texture sizes? Anyone?

Texture sizes are by default 256x256, but people have successfully made models with multiple textures that size without problems. There are converters out there to make .3ds files into .x; Lithunwrap can do that for example.

I wished I could convert models into .x format, nvr works for me, just gives me data stream errors

Well...so. If I want to modify an existing model, how do I do?

I can use the program to convert my .3ds to .x, but can it be used vice versa?

Yes, it can. Lithunwrap is really a texturing program, but it opens and saves .x, 3ds, and a slew of other files.

Textures are in windows bitmaps (.BMP) and models are in DirectX format (.x)

Couldn't find Lithunwrap, but a link to another page containing another program. Called Ultimate Unwrap. Is that the same?

That would be the later for pay Version, I think.

http://files.seriouszone.com/download.php?fileid=198

will get you Lithunwrap.

Thanx a bunch (again )!

I'll keep you posted on any models or textures I make. My goal is to make the stock models more interesting and maybe add some higher resolution textures to them. Though I am a rookie when it comes to modelling and texturing.

Still, I have 3D MAX 4.
