I still won't kill officers. Sulu, scotty, geordi, worf, they never died. Might get hurt, but they'll be back next week

Really bad diseases *do* have a chance to kill officers though, so be aware of that.

Tasha Yar was killed

But seriously, I actually like to hear that there are consequences for taking officers on the away team. That always makes for more interesting gameplay. At present it's actually foolhardy to not take all of your officers along when the captain must join the away team. Perhaps that's still true, but at least there are consequences for getting into a nasty fight, or more of a reason to fall back if you're getting your butt kicked.

I'm still playing on easy, but the tactic of sending all officers (even the captain) on all away missions seems to be very powerful. Again, forcing the player to have second thoughts (especially early in the game) is a good thing.

Yes, and at the time, it was very shocking. Probably the first time I had ever seen a regular cast member in a show actually die. (except for Dr. Who, but he regenerated!...Man, when Tom Baker was killed...that was just...oh man...)

Anyway, in retrospect, good riddance Tasha Yar!

Question Re: Effect of away team size?

Is there a way to set the crew (not officer) size of the away team?

Is there a way to select away team equipment when you have other options in cargo?

BTW, some of Dr. Who's companions also died. Alien had officer loss. If there were an option to have permadeath chance for officers, I'd use it. It'd also make sense if some attacks lead to crew death (reduce away team size) rather than just healable hitpoint loss.

Away team size: This is always a fixed percentage of the total crew capacity. Officers assigned to away missions are added to the "crew/red shirt" part of the team. (The Captain is always the last of the officers to die; "red shirts" are always first.) The HP of the away team is based upon the total number of members, plus benefits from abilities, so adding officers increases the overall HP of the team.

You can change the away team equipment through the "Install Components" screen (F7). Away Team components have "(AT)" appended to the name. Note when you buy gear through the Stations, it is automatically installed regardless of what is currently in use. So, it's a good practice to always check what is equipped immediately after you buy gear.

AT gear not in use takes up cargo space.
