Default Lockups

Hi I tried the demo but can only move a few times before the game hard locks and forces a manual reboot.

System is a an athlon 1.4 with on board sound on MB (emulates SB) Lockups seem to be sound related but have no cure and won't play the game silent.

I have SP Pro for OS (I tried running in 98 compat mode but still had problem)

You may want to visit your motherboard manufacturers website and see if there are updated drivers or software for your motherboard. If there is no updated software or whats there doesn't help you may just want to spent $10 and get a basic Sound Blaster PCI. Onboard sound uses up extra CPU that a seperate card doesn't so its generally good practice to use a seperate card. Also you won't believe the sound quality difference.

Yes I agree a separate card is MUCH better, I built this computer a couple of years ago and traded bus speed for the sound issue (a mistake as it turns out). When I build the next one I will go with the seperate sound card (although for this game 1.4 gig is plenty of cpu for the game and sound). I suspect I need to update some codex in my sound drivers though so you are correct thanks for the reply
