Default .LBN Pictures

Hello all,

These files, .lbn in the picture folder:

I'm looking at updating and altering them so that they are (In time) all photographs as opposed to some photos and some art.

I have a few questions:

Has anyone already done this?

Is there a list that exists that shows what pm00xxx.lbn file corresponds to what unit? (would speed up finding the pictures)

This will take me a while but when I do get it all done (and if it hasn't been done already) I'll be able to share this if anyone is interested.

LBM - an old Atari (or was it the Amiga?) format actually. See also ILBM and IFF file formats.

Feel free to do your own picture project, but try not to make the usual mistake some folks do by going for colour as a replacement for the B&W pics. Some other folk have already done so in their own picture projects.

The Colour LBMS are used strictly outside the game proper on intermediate screens where the palette is not being rotated. Attempts to replace the normal black and white palette with colour pics will have "swimming" or "flashing" pictures in the active game - e.g. if the encyclopaedia is brought up.

In the active game, some colour numbers (and/or RGB values) are used for animations (Smoke, fires, waves) and are rotated to cause animation effects as the game map is repainted. We don't publish that info - but if you intend to use colour you will have to use substitutes (or avoid completely) certain reds, yellows, and whites amongst others. Or it may be certain colour numbers of the 255 in the palette - I forget since it has been over 5 years since I looked at the palette shifting code.

Cheers
Andy

Cheers for the reply Andy,

Yeah I'm using B&W, done a bunch already and imported them into the game I was more wondering if anyone has already done a set or there was a list to show what file name corresponded to what unit, as at the moment I have to scroll down a list searching for the right file.

Just noticed I did a fumble and wrote lbN rather than lbm oops.

I'm viewing them in XnView and editing them in Photoshop.

There are no lists - if you want to play with game data, it is entirely up to you.

Try getting hold of a free file viewer called irfanview - it can read (but not edit) that format. Use Irfanviews' thumbnail feature to show the file series.

Cheers
Andy

That XnView does a nice job of showing them in a thumbnail view too.

Well when they get more complete I'll zip them up and upload them.

I've changed all my British vehicles, equipment, ships and aircraft to colour pictures, and most of the German.

I did this a few years ago and have had no problems with flashing or any other issues.

Some other people have done work on colour LBMs, I have some of their pictures and created some of my own using Inkscape software.

Here's a link:

To see what lbm goes with what unit:

1. Open the Main Game Options window
2. Click on the Utilities Tab
3. Click on the Mobhack OOB Editor
4. Click on the nation you want to look up (spob16 for Germany)
5. Then click the OPEN button

6. Scroll to find a unit, and it's LBM file will be listed towards the top on the far right

7. Or use the FIND window at the top to find a unit

8. To search by LBM, click the drop down (...) button (towards the top on the far right) and you will see all the LBM files listed for that OOB, with pictures.

Cross
This is incorrect. You will see all the LBM files with pictures. They are NOT only the ones used by that OOB.
