Default Strange Game Map Creation ?

I wanted to try a VS the AI game with Warp points _Not_ connected and large Galaxy so I set that in Game Setup and started about 10 Games with all Warp Points visable to see what that looked like.

In all there were about 5-6 mid size connected system Groups of different shapes, but not connected to each other. So I started a real Game with medium # of AI races.

About mid Game I started seeing Warp points connecting the different system Groups, since none of the other races could have that tech it seems the AI was creating long connections to connect all system Groups, and in very odd ways going from one end of the large map to the other ??

In a new Game starting with Not All Warp points connecting, it seems that my system group _is_ connected to another large system group in the very early Game. Again in my test this never appeared.

Is this a bug or am I misunderstanding on how the Game/Interface works ?

Default Re: Strange Game Map Creation ?

Were you wanting a map with no warp points, or disjoint clusters? There are two different settings, which have radically different affects. No Warp Points naturally supercedes Not All Warp Points Connected.

Not All Warp Points Connected tends to produce fairly random distributions of what is connected and what is not, so it is not surprising to see the occasional map with one huge chunk of the galaxy connected and several small bits of just a few systems.

You can see what technology the AI has developed by going to the Options menu, then clicking on Players. Toggle off AI control for a particular empire. After you hit end turn, it will load up their empire as if it were a human controlled empire. Normally this is cheating, but since you just want to see how they are creating the warp points, it is fine. The AIs have settings to research Stellar Manipulation far earlier in "Not Connected" states, which translates to "Can not meet other empires due to being cut off into a small portion of the galaxy."
