Default Question about nation-specific temperature scales

When I'm playing LA Caelum, which has a preference for +1 cold, I like to set my scales to +2 cold. Same for other nations with +1/+2 heat/cold preference.

The theory behind this is that with the variance in summer/winter and the general being weaker of your scales in weak dominion, the +2 is more or less as efficient as +1 is. And it gives you +40 design points.

As somewhat of a newbie, am I thinking correctly here or messing up my scales?

That's a great thing to do I think. Sometimes I'll just go ahead and pump it up to +3 even if I need a couple more points for something.

Someone did the maths on that, or tested it (I'm not sure any more), but it does indeed work like that. It even works the same way for nations without any spesific temperature preference.

Just remember that heat 3 and cold 3 give additional encumberance to units that aren't resistant to heat or cold, and avoid such extremes if necessary.

I normally always go for +3 with the +1/+2 nations.

In summer (for ice nations) you have more or less your perfect scale and in winter its +3 which isn't that bad.

Same for the fire nations.

I have often looked for a variation in temperature scales with season, but never found one.

Can anyone else confirm?

It's a very small variation but I have noticed it before

also remember that with going ahead and taking +3, the scale can't fluctuate above 3, but it can go below it. so you will never get a bigger penalty than your getting points for, but you often get a lesser one. therefore there is a small boost on return for taking a 3 scale in temperature; that's a good reason to push it there for design points; i do so quite often. consider that you can take 3 temp and 3 order and get a boost in income for free, and you will often get a little extra income than you paid for because the temp scale will tip, but it can never go higher than 3, so you never lose more income than you paid for. you can't say that for taking anything less than a 3 in temp scales.

the encumbrance penalty effects both you and them, but you can design around it. also, you rarely ever actually will encounter that penalty because your typically fighting at the edge of your dominion. also by taking 3 cold, you also ensure cold-blooded nations have a very hard time with you.
