Default Artillery Overload questions

So I have read the manual and I think I understand why there is an overload.

So I have 3 scenarios I am creating and when I playtest them as player one, it shows something like:

p2 artillery overload 80 points

So when I look in the editor both sides have some artillery, and I can see that player two has it yellowed at 23%.

Further, I see this in the editor:

Player 1
Force Value 2569
Artillery% 23
Actuals - 579 (105 OBA) + 25 for 60mm Mtr?
Grand total: 604

Player 2
Force Value 2016
Artillery% 22 (in yellow)
Actuals - 193 + 221 (414) + 2 x 24(48) for 8cm Mtr?
Grand total: 462

Difference is 142, so I don't understand why it shows 80.

This 80 would be awarded to player 2?

How would you balance this out?

Does it need to be balanced out?

The other two are both showing player 2 overloads with 125 and 55.

Is this a big deal? How to adjust?

A few points here or there won't make much difference. Several hundred may. You will need to decide as its your scenario.

The easiest way is simply to remove excess arty (which includes ammo units, remember!) from the side that is being penalised, until there is no overload awarded.

Or perhaps, add some more troops other than arty to the player with the excess arty, till that goes away. The excess is based on the excess proportion of artillery points to others in the force.

Or, since you are the scenario designer - use the editing tools to reduce the points cost of the artillery till the overload goes away.

So there are several ways to skin the cat open to you as a scenario designer.

I am considering not using artillery overload in stand-alone scenarios though since scenario designers seem to like heaping on the excess artillery for some reason.

Default Re: Artillery Overload questions

Thanks Andy! That helps a lot. I don't think I piled on the artillery, I know from playing experience that too much can kill your day. Literally lol. I'll play around further, at least the biggest one I have 125 and the lowest is 55. So I am not too far off the mark and wanted to check in first.

Thanks again!

BTW Got 16 more in the panzer series to load up shortly...;-)
