Steyerberg*
*
Date: August, 1945*
*
Battle Location: Steyerberg, Germany*
*
Battle Type: British/German defend vs Sovjet Assault*
*
If play against the AI, the human player should the British/German side.*
*
Turns: 89*
*
This scenario should be played only from the british side.
*
Hypothetical scenario:*
*
Mr. Stalin not knows about the progress/existence in the developement of the atomic bomb and the the nightmare from Sir W. Churchill of a planed violent sowjet expansion becomes true.*
*
In succession of the surrender of the german army in may 1945 everyone expected peace in europe. But after three month of inconspicuous consolidation the Red Army cross the border of
the west allies zone of occuopation and smashed everything on their way. No one knows Stalins goals. Where will he stop his troops? Capture only west germany. Or to the atlantic ocean coast?*
*
Because of the suprising attack and with no war experience against the Red Army the looses of the west allies where so heavy, that the british und us high command were forced to look for unorthodox solutions and
begun a controverse discussion, wheather they need to use the greatest reinforcement contingent in europe on short call: Millions of german prisoners of war. It was decided against the vote
of france that, except the members of the Waffen SS, all other german soldiers can volunteer. The question to them was simple: Stay in custody, wait for the Red Army and hope or fight. The
resonance to fight this time on the right side and to defend the homeland was awesome and the fast recruiting of the most experienced german soldiers begun. Prior to this every useable
german equipment (especial high-grade) on the western battlefields/factories/military stores were collected and a fast build up of military formations (Kampfgruppen) were underway.*
*
The first use of such a Kampfgruppe, subordinated to british troops was against a sowjet bridgehead over the weser river in the area of Steyerberg, west of Hannover.*
*
You are in command of the suviving parts of the 22nd Armoured Brigade and 131st Infantry Brigade and a german Kampfgruppe. Your order is simple: Allow no deep break through. Some
reinforcements and close air support are underway.*
*
Designer note:*
*
1. You have a lot of troops but you are in a defence role. A movement of the main portion of troops in every round will not be necessary.*
*
2. The Red Army WILL smash your first line. Try to delay the attack and defend in deep, you have the capacity to move your troops/reserves.*
*
3. If you are not common to handle such a great scenario: Dont be afraid, try it. Act methodical, i.e. work from north to south, front to rear area. Go to the unit menu to have an overview over our troops first. Have a look on the map where your troops are.*
*
4. Your artillery has preplaned barrage fire areas (turn 6), dont change it. After the barrage fire you can use them at your own will.*
*
5. At turn 20 there will be a massive area bombardment from a squadron of Lancasters. Maybe it helps a little bit.*
