Biological Description                   := A somewhat diminutive humanoid race with a unique skeletal structure. The Vree have a cartilaginous skeleton surrounded by muscle and are tough for their size. This physiology was very adaptable to space travel and proved resistant to the effects of long term exposure to micro gravity's *. They reproduce sexually and give birth to very small babies that would appear to mature at an accelerated pace. They are unusual in that proportions of the population are known to be true hermaphrodites that can favour one sex or the other according to reproductive needs. They are characterised by large dark elliptical eyes, suggestive of a nocturnal or low light existence. Very little is known about their longevity, but they are believed to live as long as 100 years. They are omnivores with a vegetarian leaning. (*Vree are known to have travelled far and wide in their early days of space exploration as a consequence; and their Saucer ships did produce gravity by centrifugal forces.)
Society Description                      := The Vree are a nation of Guilds. The Grandmasters of those Guilds with sufficient wealth sit on the High Council, with the rest on the Low Council. The most powerful Guilds are the Merchant/Adventurers, the Scientists, the Entertainers, the Smiths and the Mercenaries. The High Council set policy, but only a 2/3rds vote of the Council can override a Guild. The Low Council can overturn a ruling by the High Council only if the Low Council can amass greater aggregate wealth in favour of overturning the decision than the High Council can amass to support the decision.  The Guilds are the over-arching societal structure on Ventuki, below which are different groupings: religious, racial, and familial. Each of these has its members enter the guilds differently. Some Vree enter the same guild as their brood creche, others choose for themselves and some chose randomly. Some may even decide to form their own Guild. A few Guilds, notably the Merchant/Adventurers, Scientist's and Mercenary's Guild operate their own fleets and armed forces. They are never used against each other as Vree conflicts are properly handled on the open market. Culturally war is perceive as a sign of inferior craft and marketing techniques. Vree society is very competitive and capitalistic. Making a greater profit in the current cycle than the previous one advances you through the ranks of a guild and there are no rules about how guild members can acquire that profit. The Merchant/Adventurer's Guild is the most outward oriented faction, most other Guilds seeking little contact with aliens. The Mercenary's Guild is a notable exception, and is often hired by aliens, typically the Abbai. Vree may only marry members of their own guild, a closely allied guild or a guild that their own guild is in the process of forming closer relations. The majority of the Vree worship a hermaphrodite trickster god/goddess, Albendazel. Their nature is competitive, fierce, and wild. They take great pleasure in playing practical jokes and are hugely amused by their iconic nature among humans. (They have had interstellar travel since some time before 1950, and their planetary surveys of Earth were the source of the 20th century UFO fever.)  To think that a routine survey of a planet could so affect a society is something the Vree find wildly funny and is the subject of many jokes.
General History Description              := The Vree have had space flight for several hundred years and their competitive nature has aided their progress in most areas. It is interesting to note however that the Vree have only had jump capability for a few centuries and avoided all open contact with other races until roughly 150 years ago when several lower Guilds began trading with alien powers in order go gain influence back home. Vree technological level falls within the mid-range of Alliance governments and is classified as Galactic - which places them on par with the Centauri. One of the few military conflicts recording in Vree history, was "The Great Trade War", which occurred because the artists Guild forced one of its members to divorce her husband after negotiations with the Tacticians Guild broke down. The Humans call it the "Romeo and Juliet War". The Vree have 2 colonies in their home system and another in a nearby system.
