Seven 120 mm (4.7in) guns were used from 1937 on two*
Polish large destroyers, ORP Grom and ORP Blyskawica*
('Thunder' and 'Lightning'). Both were withdrawn to*
Great Britain on the eve of the war. In 1940 they*
shelled German positions at Narvik, Norway, where*
the Grom was sunk. The Blyskawica was rearmed in*
1941 (she survived as a museum ship until now).*
*
Six 120 mm guns were on a minelayer ORP Gryf*
('Griffon'), from 1938, which was defending Polish*
coast and sunk there in 1939.*
*
Apart from general allied naval support, six 120 mm*
guns were also used on two destroyers lent by Royal*
Navy in 1940 and 1942, ORP Piorun ('Thunderbolt')*
and ORP Orkan ('Orcan'), and three guns on*
a destroyer escort ORP Garland.*
