155 mm wz.17 howitzer was a sound and reliable*
French Schneider design of WWI-vintage, used by many*
countries and also manufactured in Poland.*
They were a mainstay of Polish heavy artillery,*
although their range of 11 km was not outstanding*
anymore by 1939.*

They were used in heavy artillery detachments of all*
30 regular infantry divisions (a battery of three*
155 mm howitzers in each).*

They were also used in eight wartime heavy artillery*
regiments and four heavy artillery detachments of *
C-in-C reserve, each with twelve 155 mm howitzers in*
three four-gun batteries (in regiments, along with *
105 mm guns). *

There were 340 howitzers available in 1939.*
All were horse-drawn.*
