40mm Bofors AA guns were bought from Sweden and also*
manufactured in Poland by the licence. They were*
introduced to the Polish Army as early, as in 1936.*
Modified guns produced in Great Britain were used*
by Polish units organized there. Bofors 40mm is*
recognized as the best ligh AA gun throughout*
the war.*
*
There were two models of Polish-made guns:*
wz.36 on a four-wheeled cross carriage, meant for AA*
defence of big units, hauled by the C2P tractor,*
and a semi-stationery wz.38 for point defence,*
towed by trucks.*
*
The problem in 1939 was an inadequate number of guns*
in units: there were 4 in a regular infantry*
division and 2 in a cavalry brigade. In total there*
were available 158 guns wz.36 and 164 wz.38.*
Polish-made guns were also exported to Great Britain*
before the war.*
