ORP "Krakow" was one of two river monitors of*
Krakow class, built in Poland in 1926, belonging to*
Pinsk Flotilla (the other one was "Wilno").*
It bore a name for Cracov.*
*
They were relatively light monitors, meant to*
operate on shallow waters of Pripyat basin in*
eastern Poland, against Soviet forces. In "what if"*
scenarios it can operate on the Vistula against*
Germans.*
*
The unit represents its final 1939 armament variant,*
with three 100mm howitzers (two in fore turret and*
one in aft turet) and 13.2mm AAMG (not counting*
7.92mm MGs).*
*
It had no chance to fight in 1939 and was scuttled*
on 21 September 1939, after Soviet invasion, being*
the last major flotilla vessel afloat. It tried to*
break westwards to fight the Germans, but was halted*
by a blown-up railway bridge west of Pinsk.*
