Fifty Renault R-35 light infantry tanks were bought in France just before the war. *
*
45 tanks formed the 21st Light Tank Battalion in Luck (Lutsk), assigned to C-in-C reserve.*
Unfortunately, this unit did not fight eventually (in spite of plans to subordinate it to the 10th
Motorized Cavalry Brigade fighting near Lviv), but was evacuated to Romania, by higher command orders.*
*
Only four of remaining R-35s were used in combat in an improvised half-company of Dubno Group (along with three H-39 tanks), commanded by Lt. Jakubowski.*
They fought against both Germans and the Soviets near Kamionka Strumilowa in late September 1939.*
