Polish heavy artillery not assigned to infantry divisions consisted in 1939 of: *
- 12 detachments (battalions) of 155 mm wz.17 Schneider howitzers,*
- 8 detachments (battalions) of 105 mm wz.13 or wz.29 Schneider cannons,*
- 3 detachments (battalions) of 120 mm cannons (wz.1878/31/09 and wz.1878/31/10).*
*
There were 12 guns in each detachment (battalion, Polish: Dywizjon), in four-gun batteries. *
105 mm wz.29 cannons and 120 mm cannons were practically the only long-range artillery pieces in Polish Army.*
All eight detachments of 105 mm cannons and eight detachments of 155 mm howitzers formed eight Heavy Artillery Regiments. *
*
There were also 3 detachments of 220 mm wz.32 Skoda heavy siege mortars (6 guns each), but their practical usefulness was low.*
