In Western Europe there was the 1st Armoured Division, commanded by Gen. Maczek, equipped with Sherman V tanks, replaced since November 1944 by Sherman IIA. It entered combat in France in August 1944 (Falaise, Chambois), liberating parts of Belgium and the Netherlands, to Germany (Wilhelmshaven).*

In Italy, since April 1944, there was the 2nd Armoured Brigade, equipped mainly with Sherman III tanks, fighting among others, at Monte Cassino and Bologna. In 1945 it was reformed to the 2nd Armoured Division.*

Earlier, Polish armoured units trained respectively in Great Britain (Valentine, then Covenanter, Crusader and Sherman tanks) and in Iraq/Palestine/Egypt (Valentine 2pdr and 6pdr, then Sherman tanks).*
