Tankettes, classified as light reconnaissance tanks, were Polish most numerous armoured vehicles, although most were MG-armed and their combat value was low.*
Only several units had some TKS tankettes rearmed with 20mm cannons ("nkm" in Polish), which could fight against tanks.*
*
The tankettes were used in Independent Reconnaissance Tank Companies (13 tanks each) and tankette squadrons of Armoured Detachments of cavalry brigades (also 13 vehicles).*
The company or squadron had 13 tankettes, in two 6-vehicle platoons, and the commander's vehicle. In each platoon one tankette belonged to repair patrol, with a trailer, and usually kept behind.*
*
There were:*
- 15 Independent Reconnaissance Tank Companies, divided among some Armies,*
- 11 tankette squadrons of Armoured Detachments assigned to cavalry brigades,*
- 2 reconnaissance tank companies assigned to two motorized brigades,*
- 2 reconnaissance tank squadrons of two motorized brigades.*
