World War 3: Hammer & Anvil*
*
Date: Summer 2020*
*
Battle Location: Roman, Moldovia area, close to Moldovan border, Romania*
*
Battle Type: Romanian 15th Mechanized Brigade counterattack attempt against Ukrainian paratrooper battalion; later delay against Ukrainian 57th Motorized Brigade*
*
*
Russia, drived by militarism and raging economic crisis launches invasion of western Europe, thus de facto starting a new world war.*
Russia is supported by it's allies: Belarus (being economically dependant) and Ukraine (that was forcefully subdued as puppet state shortly before), as well as some allies from central east. Serbia is currently looking at Russia with positive eye and Turkey openly refuses to comply with NATO treaties.*
*
This allows Russia to launch heavy invasion on Baltic States, Poland and also Romania. Militaries of those nations fight bravely but finally succumb to armoured onslaught.
*
*
*
Let us rewind a little bit to how it all started.*
While bulk of Russian and Byelorussian brigades cross into Baltic States and Poland, several Russian elements with their Ukrainian must-be allies overwhelm Moldovia without a fight and proceed through the Prut river. Ukrainians - particularly them - are rather reluctant to fight after years long Donbass conflict, particularly on the Russian side. Nevertheless, new pro-russian government in Kiev reconstructed bulk of the army and provided it to Russian command.
*
*
Meanwhile, first response Romanian units advance towards Prut river hoping to stop the invaders on the river line - first of many, as Romanian defensive plan sees it. Yet, 15th Mechanized did not make it on time, Moldovian lack of resistance did not give them the time they needed. Meanwhile, Russian command - knowing of the importance of bridges in Romanian plans - order both Russian and Ukrainian paratrooper forces to seize as many as possible.
*
*
The bridges in provincial city of Roman was taken without a fight. Yet, deadly for the Romanians, Roman bridges lay directly in the close rear of 15th Mechanized. Should this bridge remain in Ukrainian control, entire brigade will have no effective way to withdraw. Anvil is already set in Roman - and hammer, being entire Ukrainian brigade heading to link with paratroopers - is about to fall.
*
*
Commander, you control 15th Mechanized brigade, though not all of its elements are present at your location. 634th Mechanized Battalion is still heading towards Roman from the north-west town of Piatra-Neamt. Your rear has just deployed against a new threat and your front is coming in. Your task is to quickly recapture the bridges. Use your tanks and TABs agressively as you have no other choice. Casualties may be high, but you have no more than one and a half hour (~20 turns) before Ukrainian link-up force arrives...
*
*
There is no air nor additional artillery support, we have nothing to spare. Ukrainian and Russian air force dominate the area, so keep your AA weapons ready. As soon as you secure the bridges, move your rear to the other side or Ukrainian link-up will destroy it in matter of minutes!
**
Your tanks and APCs are obsolete but still deadly if used aggressively. Do not underestimate the power of your 100mm anti-tank guns - they have modern Romanian ammunition that can be dangerous to modern vehicles!
*
*
Recapture the bridges. Plan new defensive positions against the right side of the map. Do your best at defending against the main push and if possible, hold the bridges.
*
*
SPECIAL VICTORY CONDITIONS:*
Try to keep at least 1/3 of your fighting force in one piece. Holding the area is your priority, however if enemy scores less than 12000pts consider yourself particularly victorious.

Notes: If played against the AI the human player should take the Romanian side.*
