Scenario 2
"Assaulting Zuckerhuetl"*
07th October, 1944*
114th Rifle Division*
Titovka River Sector*

*
As dawn breaks, our artillery preparation starts. As part of the 99th Rifle Corps, your division will assault the German southernmost flank. After the German line is broken, we have to take the German road network beyond the Titovka river, in order to continue our offensive. Your objective is to either seize or neutralize the German strongpoint in front of you, codenamed "Zuckerhuetl" by the Fascists. You have to decide what to do: Assaulting the fortress might well result in heavy casualties to your core force, but it can result in a decisive victory. If you instead suppress the German positions with artillery and encircle them with your forces, you will only gain a marginal victory or draw. However, it is the safer option.

*
Your force has been reinforced with several batteries of artillery, including heavy mortars and 152mm howitzers, in addition to your own mortars and the divisional 76 and 122mm pieces.

*
Intelligence: This part of the front is held by the 2nd Gebirgsjaeger Division, a crack German mountain fighting unit. They don't have enough men to hold a continuous frontline, so they are organized in company-strength strongpoints.
These are ringed by barbed wire and trenches, with several bunkers and other fortifications. Each company is usually assigned some light direct fire artillery, some mortars and some heavy machine guns. They are organized for all-round defence, but the Germans also patrol the surrounding area and if they realize that they are being surrounded, they will undoubtably counter attack from their trenches.
They have no armored vehicles or artillery above 105mm.

*
Objectives: Encircle or destroy the German strongpoint. You will only receive major reinforcements in about 2 weeks, so keep your casualties to a minimum, even if it means not taking all objectives.*
