Outskirts of Brest*
*
After a short period of rest and refit, the 29th Infantry was moved out of Normandy by truck and entered Britanny in late August. The objective here is the important port town of Brest. The dock installations are needed to supply our push towards Germany.*
However, the last two weeks were rather frustrating: Bocage terrain, a lack of artillery ammunition and determined enemy resistance has slowed our advance to a crawl. Still, our noose around the encircled town tightens. Right now we are stationed to the west of it and preparing for the final push.*
The main German position in front of us is anchored to two old 18th century forts: Fort Keranroux and Fort Montbarey. Keranroux fell to the boys of the 175th Regiment two days ago after a massive bombardment. Montbarey will be a tougher nut to crack.

*
Objectives: *
Deploy your forces.*
Destroy the entrance of the fortress.*
Take the interior of the fortress and the road leading east.*
Return the British tanks to their owners.*
*
*
Enemy: Brest is held by a motley crew of elite German paratroopers from the 2nd Fallschirmjaeger Division, remnants of German Infantry divisions that retreated into the town and Kriegsmarine forces of varying skill and motivation. The fort itself is of an outdated starfort type design, but has proven quite resistant to artillery fire. There are also several machine-gun armed concrete pillboxes strewn around it. It is ringed by a minefield and an antitank ditch. Last night our engineers managed to clear three gaps in this minefield, although it cost them several casualties. These gaps are marked on your map.*
The garrison of the town is on its last legs after a protracted battle, but the loss of such a key position will likely trigger a counter attack with their last reserves!*

*
In order to enable you to fulfill this mission, several specialist units have been attached to your force. In fact, one could argue that you are supporting them more than the other way around! Your main strike force will be an engineer company, equipped with satchel charges and flame throwers. A tank platoon from the 709th tank battalion and four M10s from the 821st tank destroyer battalion will provide fire support. Most importantly, the British army has lend us a unit of their heavily armored flamethrower tanks, type "Crocodile". Do NOT lose these needlessly! They will cost you extra points when determining victory. You will start out with 3, with another platoon joining later.*
*
*
You will not receive replacements until after the town of Brest is taken.

HISTORICAL NOTE: In reality, the 1st Battalion attacked Fort Montbarey, but this scenario is too unique and interesting to leave out of the campaign...
