Near Fomikhinski, Soviet Union*
*
Our big offensive started this morning after a massive artillery barrage. However, the infantry was not able to break through the Romanian lines and only made minor advances. Because of this, it was decided to release the armor early. 1st and 26th Tank Corps will both attack the Romanians directly, exploiting their lack of anti tank weapons. The weather is snowy and foggy, with low visibility. The terrain is open and flat, with heavy snow drifts and balkas limiting movement.*
*
26th Tank Corps will attack with 157th and 19th Tank Brigade as spearheads. You will start in the sector of 124th Rifle Corps and advance in a southward direction (east on the flipped map). The goal for the day is the height 223 as a springboard for the continuation of the offensive. Bypass the enemy stronghold in the village of Fomikhinski, as clearing it would delay the offensive.
*
*
Objectives: Place your core force within the indicated area.*
Smash the Romanian lines and seize height 223.*
*
Enemy: This sector is held by the 5th Romanian Infantry Division. They are lightly dug-in in trenches, with some covered positions and obstacles. They have little access to modern anti tank weaponry, which should make it possible to simply overrun them with our T-34s.
*
*
In addition to your core force, you also command 157th Tank Brigade to your south. In the interest of playability, not all of 157th is placed on the map, instead only the spearhead is present. Likewise, the 124th Rifle Corps is still consolidating their recently captured Romanian positions and clearing left over minefields. They will not participate directly in the fighting, however, their artillery will become available to you shortly.
