StuG Company*
*
The StuG IIIG was considered the best and most capable armoured vehicle in Finnish service before the introduction of the T-54 "Nikita". The StuGs were not to be used as a StuG battalion as was done in 1944, but rather as companies in tank battalion, just like all the other tanks were used. The StuGs were not used in training of the tankers, but were stored to prevent breaking them up.*

The StuGs were also to be used as the tanks - to support the bicycle/ski equiped Jaeger battalions. This tactical thinking gave the armoured vehicles the role of a mobile pillbox to move along the attacking infantry and to destroy enemy weapon positions. The StuG as a weapon was considered especially vulnerable to enemy AT-weapons as it had no rotating turret, and the vehicles would receive infantry from the Jaeger battalions for close protection.*

For some time Finnish tank companies had 11 tanks, one for CO, three platoons of three and a tank for FO section. This FO tank was a Sturmi due to its very good radio equipment (at least compared to anything else Finns had in use). The company also received a Tank Infantry Platoon (Suojajoukkue) that was to provide the tanks with cover against enemy AT teams. As the Finnish SOP during that time was to attach the tank companies to jaeger battalions for fire support, now when the tank company came with its own infantry trained to work in close cooperation with the tanks the supported jaegers no longer needed to provide the tanks with men for close protection.*

Later the FO tank was removed from the tank company organization as the tactics started to favour the use of the tank company divided into jaeger companies, one platoon each. This combined with the fact that it was the jaeger commander leading the attack on foot with his own FO units, the FO tank simply became obsolete as the tank company would not call any indirect fires.*
