Antitank Company*
*
Infantry Battalions, Jaeger Battalion 90 and many Battlegroups have Antitank Companies to battle enemy armour in point of main effort. The AT Companies are armed with rechoilless weapons, the heavier 95mm S 58-61 "Musti" and ligher rechoilless weapons (55S55, later APILAS and 66 KES 75/88).*
*
The weapons in this company provide decent AT capability to ranges shorter than 1000 meters. For this reason the company should be deployed in areas where the enemy cannot use its longer range weapons to destroy the rather slow weapons, usually heavily dug-in. The heavy weapons should be deployed to create AT killzones, where multiple weapons can fire at any target especially from sides or rear. The lighter AT weapons provide close cover if enemy AFVs manage to get close. AT minefields and barriers should be constructed to channel enemy armour movement to these killzones. Use of smoke and indirect fires will also help when fighting the armoured enemy.*
*
The AT company is usually used to fight in cooperation with the Infantry Companies, with the infantry giving protection against dismounted foe and the AT weapons taking out enemy tanks. Individual platoons can also be attached to infantry companies.*
*
The AT company moves using tractors and trucks. During combat the Musti crew pulls the weapon using the wheels or a special sled in winter. Anyone who has been trained in this art, does remember the joy of taking Musti for a walk - for the rest of their lives.*
