Armoured Reconnaissance Company*
*
In WW2 finnish armoured division did not have any organic recce units. The reconnaissance was done by the first unit to drive into battle contact with the enemy. This worked pretty well at that time due to the non-existent AT-capability of the enemy. Also when armoured forces were unleashed, the enemy was already in disarray and fast advance was possible.*
*
Later it was realized that armoured forces need some organic recce unit. A recce company was organized into armoured brigade. It is made of one platoon of armoured infantry and recce tanks and 3 recce platoons of truck/bicycle and motocycle transported jaegers. It also has some pioneer power to deal with possible minefields.*
*
The company must be able to stop light enemy of similar size and be able to harass heavier enemy units slowing and wearing them down. To be able to do this the company cannot be divided into too big area. The company is normally sent to the battle area only some hours before the brigade starts its attack. Because of this the unit must move fast and avoid long firefights with the enemy.*
*
To give the unit more ability to fight against enemy vehicles a tank platoon is sometimes attached.*
