Tank Company of Tank Battalion*
*
In the 1950s infantry was attached organically into tank companies. In mid-60s tank companies received BTR-50s. This meant that the infantry did not have to ride on tank decks anymore. It enabled the company to move faster in combat situations, because the infantry did not have to dismount to enable the tanks to use their weapons effectively. Before each tank had its own section of infantry, but now a platoon of panzerjaegers was attached into tank companies. The jaeger platoon was used as a platoon or divided to the the tank platoons, squad each.*

Finnish tank battalion was not intended to be used as a battalion. In combat the tank companies are divided to the brigades jaeger battalions to form battlegroups as was done in WW2. The tank company was also in many cases divided to jaeger companies. This way all jaeger companies would have a platoon of tanks for fire support.*

Now that the tank companies had their own infantry, the jaeger battalions did not have to train and give away infantry for the protection of the tanks. Tanks were considered as moving gun positions and they were to give fire support to the jagers. For this reason the tanks would move at the speed of footmen and behind the jaegers rather than use theit mobility and firepower to break through enemy positions. During the 1970's a new tactical thinking was araising. In this thinking the tank battalion would be used as an armoured fist, independently. This way of thinking gave birth to the Armoured Battalions of the 1980's.*
