THE SITUATION

Date: August 1986
Game/Version: WinSPMBT 4.5

Battle Length: 5
Nation: Soviet Union
Command Size: Reinforced Motorized Rifle Battalion (BTR)

   INTRODUCTION:

In the summer of 1985 World War III finally erupted between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. After 3 months of heavy fighting and the seesawing back and forth of the front lines a cease fire was finally negotiated. For the most part, the original borders were restored with the exception of a couple of significant NATO penetrations into Western Czechoslovakia. During the somewhat peaceful winter of 1985/86, both sides rearmed and redeployed their forces for the expected resumption of hostilities. French forces moved East to bolster the depleted NATO defenses. On August 4th, 1986, the Soviet 48th Motorized Rifle Division has given the task of leading the attack to retake Western Czechoslovakia.

For this campaign you are the commander of 3rd Motorized Rifle Battalion (BTR), 146th Motorized Rifle Regiment, 48th Motorized Rifle Division. This unit is an full strength, BTR equipped Soviet Motorized Rifle Battalion with an attached Tank Company from the Regimental Tank Battalion (you have no organic Artillery or Air Defense assets).

   ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Once the fighting starts, you will have no choice about what reinforcements or repair priority you get. Your Regimental Commander (Double Deuce) will allocate any repair and refit allowances after each battle (based on his losses in the main Campaign File). In addition, all efforts will be made by the Regimental Commander to provide you and your men with the additional assets necessary to accomplish your missions. Be advised though, that as the war progresses you will be placed into difficult situations and will have to carry on the fight with whatever forces you have on hand.
