Khorramabad, Lorestan province, Iran*
September 10, 2009*
*
*
The Division has pushed into Khorramabad city, the capital of Lorestan province. Resistance has been sporadic and disorganised. After a day of skirmishing it is clear that the die hard left overs of the local Revolutionary Guard has taken their refuge in the Falak-ol-Aflak castle.*
*
TERRAIN AND WEATHER:*
Khorramabad is a city surrounded by mountains. Manoeuvre space both outside the city and inside is limited.*
*
1.__SITUATION:*
Most of the Iranian forces defending Khorramabad seem to have deserted. Only very sporadic resistance was offered when the Division entered the city. Die hard elements of local militia and Revolutionary Guard have barricaded themselves in the ancient Falak-ol-Aflak castle. We believe them to be disorganised but with access to major supplies. Elsewhere our operations all over the country are progressing with considerable success.*
*
__a. Enemy Forces:*
The elements inside Falak-ol-Aflak castle are believed to be motivated albeit disorganised. They probably have access to rich supplies in food and munitions as well as some mortars. It is believed they are trying to take advantage of the world heritage status of the castle to protect them against heavy fire. We estimate the number of enemy combatants to be around 200.*
*
__b. Friendly Forces:*
The risk of collateral damage is too great to warrant the use of heavy artillery against the castle.*
*
__c. Attachments/Detachments:*
A Polish reinforced Special Forces platoon will be attached to your battalion for this mission. The Poles are later to take over the security of Khorramabad once their regular battalion group catch up with us.*
*
2.__MISSION:*
Your mission is to defeat the enemy units in and around Falak-ol-Aflak castle doing as little damage to the castle itself as possible.*
