I can't connect to PBW. I guess we'll see if it's back up in a few minutes.

Re: PBW status

I got an email notification, thanks for fixing it. Noticing now that the page is loading very slowly however. Like 10 or 15 seconds even with a 1.5mbps connection.

Just an FYI;
I had to send my turn, via http, 3 times before it took. Could be sign of current or impending failure. (or could be bad ISP???)

Re: PBW status

The error 500 strikes again.

Edit: The sequel to which is the return of the PBW.

Re: PBW status

Well, since the ISP hardware upgrade we've had a couple momentary glitches, which I don't expect to ever go away completely, but I've not had to reset the new modem once. Before I was doing that almost daily. We've not had a down event that lasted even as long it took me to check the site once I got a report. It's always back up on it's own before I can get to it. I think that a good sign.

Re: PBW status

Cable has been going up and down all aftenoon. And when the cable is down, the ISP connection is out too. We've reported the problem but no eta on when it will be resolved. For the time being I've turned off the auto turns so nobodys game procceses before they can get their turn uploaded.

Graphic-based PBW is down with internal server error 500: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

But the text-based page is still working.

geoschmo July 3rd, 2005 08:01 PM

Re: PBW status

I had an email about this a few hours ago but when I checked it seemed ok to me. I realize now I only checked the text side and I guess the problem started on the graphic side. Both should be working ok now.

If Geo operates the server from his workplace it's futile to hope that it will be fixed on a Sunday.

Ok, we may be down for a bit. I haven't been able to exactly figure out what's causing the problem. I've got a message in to Georgig. He knows a bit more about how the code functions. Hopefully he can resolve it.

Re: PBW status

Something on the server configuration got messed up and we are trying to correct it without doing any additional damage. If there was someone on the forum that was a whiz with Java/Apache/Tomcat server setup they might be able to help, but unfortunatly I don't think there is. We've asked in the past and noone was anyway.

I'm sure we'll muddle through and find a solution. It may take a few more days though. If I can get ahold of Admiral or Lazarus they might be able to resolve it.

Re: PBW status

What seems to be wrong? I'm by no means a whiz, but I've got an Apache server set up on my PC... who knows, maybe I'd know enough to fix the problem! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Last week I installed IIS because I wanted to get ftp working again. Admiral had originally setup the server with IIS just for FTP but I had never got it set back up when I moved the server to the new box last year. I don't know if this is significant or not. At the time I installed it last week and immediately after there didn't seem to be any problems with the site. I had the default web service and default SMPT turned off and only the default FTP turned on.

A couple days later Georgig got on the server and setup a couple new Se4 mods. He is quite familier with this process as he's been doing most of it lately. For some reason though the server hung on him this time and he had to reboot it. This wasn't extraordinary in itself, but this time once it came back up is when we started having the problems. This was the first time it was rebooted after I had installed IIS a few days earlier so I suspected there might be a connection.

When I checked the IIS window this time the default web service was running. I shut it down and rebooted, but that didn't help.

Today I reinstalled the java SDK, Apache and Tomcat. Prior to that I had reloaded the PBW java code files from a known good backup of the code. However, we continue to get this error about not being able to set up certs for trusted CAs.

I'm stumped.

I've got a message in to Admiral and Lazarus about it, but neither of them have been much involved in PBW for quite some time. Not sure if they will be able to help.

Guys, we ran into this at my workplace also. The certificates for the JCE (Java Encryption Extensions) 1.2.1 expired on the 27th. I think there is a patch for this issue. Let me get you more info.

Richard August 1st, 2005 12:17 PM

Re: PBW status

There are two potential fixes depending on the SDK your running.

Here is more info:

Re: PBW status

Damn, days of wasted effort trying to run down a problem on the server and it was just the stupid Sun software security license had expired.

Thank you Richard for pointing out the problem.

The server is up, but we still have some issues. The email setting are all muffed up because I overwrote some of the config files with an old backup copy chasing this error down. Until I get that figured out you probably wont get any turn or news messages. The incoming email for sending turn files may work though.

Auto turns are still off and will be for a few days at least.

Also, the most recent mods that were added may not be working now. I have to get with Georgig and figure out which mods he added.

The site should be accesable and turns should process if all .plr files are uploaded or if the owner forces the turn.
