If you don't like Trillian, you may try

Gaim or

Miranda.

All three are multi-protocol clients which can not only connect you to any IRC server but to ICQ, AIM, Jabber etc as well.

For linux it tends to be already installed. Or at least, easily available in the software catalog for automated "select/install/configure".

Personally I go with IRCII altho irssi is becoming popular.

Whu, hu wa? Already installed on Linux? Do you mean a default installation of Ubuntu Linux, per chance? Or maybe RedHat or SuSE?

I'm using XChat 2, myself.

Any of the above actually. On a linux machine, its worth typing IRC just to see if it comes up before rushing to install something which might not be as stable. Just like on Windows its worth trying that IRC link just to see if your browser will put you into an irc window.

If you use Firefox, Chatzilla (an IRC program) is embedded with the program I believe.

Tools > Chatzilla

Opera browser also has a built-in easy to use IRC client. It is OK for chatting, but lacks some of the features other IRC clients like mIRC have, eg. downloading is very hard.

If you don't want to download any clients, config them etc. you can also use the java based webchat of gamesurge.

And if you don't even have a Java plugin installed or think that it's too much of a hog of system resources to use it, but you still have a newish browser, then you could use the following link to instantly chat on the channel:

Mibbit #Dominions chat

With that link I think pretty much everyone here should give the channel a go at some point.
