Any news, Tesco? Could you identify the problem, is it database corruption or something more difficult?

Geo, I just got a nag email for a PBW game... did you disable auto turn processing?

geoschmo May 19th, 2004 06:56 PM

Re: PBW status

Yes, turns are not going to process. You might get an occasional nag email whenever we start the server up again to test something out. It's not anything to worry about though.

Site appears to be up right now...but only in Text mode. This might just be a test...

Re: PBW status

Ok, site is back up, but as Kana noticed it's only in text mode. It's not a test though. You can use it. You just can't use the Graphic UI, and the forums are down. That's what was apparently taking everything down, so I have turned them off for now.

Auto processing is still off, but turns will run if all .plr files are uploaded or if the game owner forces the turn.

We'll limp along for now until we can fix the forums.

An FYI, I do not know if it is the reason or not, in one of my games (Highliner) I have Emailed turns in and the Last 2 I have had to up-load them to make the turn.
Thanks

Re: PBW status

Actually the email turns function is not working either, but that has been going on for several days and is a separate problem from the recent down time.

Re: PBW status

This may seem kind of silly, but I can't find where to upload a turn in this text mode. I see where to download, and just about everything else.
This is not an immediate problem for me because I completed my uploads before the crash. I was just wondering if anyone else has not uploaded because, like me, they haven't figured out how yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Well for at least uploading of turns...it works just like the GUI interface. Good job on getting something back up guys...

Re: PBW status

Go to the page of the game in question, and look at the left of your screen. There should be a link called "Send Turn" if you haven't uploaded your turn yet, which will allow you to do so.

It should be as in the graphics Version afterwards. (I cannot say for sure though, as I have always used the text-based Version)

Edit: It seems like I didn't quite understand your post (or you altered it quite a bit with your edit, but the former seems more likely). The option to "send your turn" isn't available if you have already uploaded your file.

Re: PBW status

There is no such link as I view it. Does the "get turn" button change into a "send turn" button when the time comes?

I'm trying to join a game, but I am not receiving an email from PBW with the empire password. help would be appreciated.

Thanks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Re: PBW status

Have you been approved to join the game or have you merely applied for the position in this game? You can check by going to the game page and see if your name is given as player for one of the Empires.

You will only receive the mail with the password once the game owner approves you, and not before. If you have already been approved, it may be due to a technical problem, but you should check if your mail works as well. A player has just been approved to join another game, so it shouldn't be linked with any technical problem. (The key work being "shouldn't" here)

Re: PBW status

I've checked the game status and it shows "awaiting turn". The game host has been notified and he said that he got a garbled message. I got nothing so far. I can download the turn, but I can load the game because I don't have the password.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Well, not entirely turned off...I've done a few turns today and received all of them via email (though I downloaded them manually from the site).

So, other than saying I am getting email, I don't know what it means.

Does anyone else have problems adding new players to a game? When I try to add a player to a Koth game I get a error message:

Error: 500
Location: /GameAdmin
Internal Servlet Error:
-crop-

Player will be still added to the game, though. But the Empire Shipset is "null", nothing shows in log and the players I added yesterday disappeared during the night.

Re: PBW status

There are still database problems that need to be resolved.

geoschmo May 25th, 2004 04:20 PM

Re: PBW status

Yes, everyone is having that problem. I suspect it's a side effect of the forum database foul up. When you add a player to a game, one of the things it normally does is give them access to the game forum. I think it's tripping up on that.

We are working on the forum problem. Once that's fixed the other should be as well.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I'm a little nervous about doing this as we haven't really fixed anything yet, just worked around our current problems. And the email turn feature is broke, making it much harder for some people to keep up with their turn deadlines. But we are thinking about it. In the mean time the game owner can force turns manually.

I've also just recently accepted anew player to the 001 Ultimate game, but he never received the "join accepted" email, hence he doens't have the empire password. Is there any way to get it to him, or do I need to run the turn manually and reset it?

thanks,

Alarik

Ps: I would have posted this in the PBW admin request forum, but they seem to be down as well.

Had a bit of a storm blow through there for a bit. About 2 inches of rain in 20 min. Power went out for a few seconds and I thought it was best to leave it off till the storm was over. Everything should be ok now though.

It was jealus that you left it behind. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif You need to spend more quality time with the pbw server as its needs are great.

I know, you can give it a baby brother server. Link them together and they will never be lonely. Oh wait that is a bad idea, they might form a sentient AI and then plot to kill you in your sleep. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Is something wrong with PBW game set up? I am trying to set up a rated game and assign the players yet I get server errors and other wierd stuff?

Am I doing something wrong (highly likely) or is it PBW?
