No problem. I had scheduled monday for the time increase for myself, since school starts up again. However, I don't see too much harm in starting it early. I will set it on 48 hour turns once turn 6 is out.

Shoots himself in the head! Its turn 6 - turns take...20 minutes to do!

Yeah, this is pretty slow, 48 hours a turn seems a bit excessive this early. I was already not too happy with the pace... we should be in year two by now :(

Dragar January 4th, 2009 03:25 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

surely turns are only a few minutes to play this early on?

JimMorrison January 4th, 2009 07:26 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I'm pretty sure for some people it's not the amount of time per turn, but just the frequency with which they can get computer time to actually deal with the turn.....

MadFrancis January 4th, 2009 07:34 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

yeah .. I was hoping to be further along than this by now, but <shrug> oh well...

Dragar January 7th, 2009 10:38 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Could we maybe compromise on 36 hours? This has been painfully slow for such early stages of the game

rdonj January 7th, 2009 10:47 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

36 hours probably wouldn't be too bad.

Zeldor January 8th, 2009 05:18 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Yeah, I agree. Even with school, people shouldn't have any problems with 24h hosting. At least for 1-2 more weeks, knowing exam schedule.

JimMorrison January 8th, 2009 08:23 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Just calm down you guys, it's on 48h hosting for a few turns now, and turns have been coming every day anyways. He just wants that cushion in case his schedule is demanding on one day or other.

And regardless, Francis was going to set it 48h anyways, as between work and school, his whole schedule is generally pretty demanding.

Zeldor January 8th, 2009 08:50 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Make it 36 at least please. Not it was full 48h. And turns really take 5 minx max.

rdonj January 8th, 2009 12:57 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I'm perfectly calm :) Oh well, it's a bit slow, but I can deal with it. It's just not quite as immersive when the game is moving slowly.

JimMorrison January 8th, 2009 07:29 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

But it's not a bit slow. :p

We were on turn 6 on the 3rd, and now on turn 10 on the 7th. There's just a buffer so no one gets screwed in the game because they had a rough day IRL. ;)

Fakeymcfake January 9th, 2009 01:42 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

This isn't slow, you want slow look at Greenrow. That game has been going on since last September and I think we've just done turn 40. Then again, we've been doing 7 day hosting intervals since the start so I knew what I was signing up for.

Point is, it could be much slower.

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

sorry to interrupt this thread but I am trying to get a hold of qjo - hey qjo - since you seem to have abandoned Epic_Battles, can you at least set your nation in that game to AI?

Fakeymcfake January 14th, 2009 04:17 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Hey could you extend the warning before hosting to 12 hours? I find that any shorter and people usually miss the warning as it hits them while they're sleeping (as what happened to me last turn).

Zeldor January 14th, 2009 04:33 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

That game is so slow that I almost forgot I'm playing it. Can you really rethinkg it and make it 36h at least?

chrispedersen January 14th, 2009 07:17 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I'm going to post up for a sub.

LA TC will trade air gems for nature.

rdonj January 20th, 2009 11:49 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

The forges of EA ulm are now open! We have reached cons 4 and are forging air, water, and fire items of up to level 1, and earth up to level 2. Some cross-pathing available. All level 1 forgings cost 4 gems, level 2 8 gems. For the moment we will require that any forgings of air, water and fire be paid for in advance as we do not have a terribly large income of those gem types. Items requiring earth gems may even be paid for with other gems, at least for the time being.

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I'm very disappointed at MA Ulm's playing word trick in diplomacy, which ruined my gameplay experience. In addition, a have some RL issues to attend to recently. After some careful consideration, I decide to turn myself AI or may the admin find a sub for my nation.

chrispedersen January 23rd, 2009 02:09 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

When you say Ulm ruined your game play experience - what you really mean is, before you were happy fighting a war ganging up 2:1, but you are not happy facing a war, where you are ganged up on 2:1. Thats the only thing thats changed.

In games, and in life, alliances change, and things change. When you declared war on me, sensing big advantage - I went to work full time defending myself militarily and diplomatically- and I capitalized on the tiny mistake that you had made.

Rather than blame ulm for ruining your expectation of victory, take your lumps learn from your mistakes, have fun, and move on.
Realize that every person in this game can read the charts and realizes that you are #1 in Research, and getting farther ahead.

However, since you are abdicating, and Ulm and I were the players that expended money, troops, and effort in securing your defeat, we want to put all nations on notice that we claim those territories and will brook no interference from other nations in claiming of that prize, but are happy to discuss other matters with all nations.

T'ien Ch'i would like to congratulate on destruction of Bogarus and send words of sympathy. We are sure that whole world is happy that Bogarus is gone, with their scary and provocative research lead. To be honest I'd attack them too, if I had border. They were just getting too dangerous.

chrispedersen January 23rd, 2009 08:08 PM

Gems

To all concerned:

We all know that the game interface for making trades is prone to mistakes. You can never be sure
exactly which nation you clicked on, and there is no way to review.

I recently transfered 12 air gems and 12 earth gems, yet the intended recipient says that he did not receive them. Since the players here are quite generally helpful and truthful - I believe him.

I would kindly ask if you would check your turns, and see if you received a mysterious gift of gems would you contact me offline?

In the meantime, I am asking llama to forward my last turn and .2h to me.

Thank you one and all.

MadFrancis: Could you take the game off quick host, please, to track this down. I might need time to recompense the recipient and I am not at a computer with domininions.

LA TC is still interested in buying some N gems. We have A/W for trade.

I worked 22 hours last night, and had car troubles this morning. It is extremely unlikely that I will be able to process a turn before deadline.

Is there any chance I can get a 6 hour extension?

LA TC is selling nice construction 4 gear. We highly recommend flying boots, flying carpets, frost brands and skull staffs. Ask for special prices! We are accepting gold as payment method too! And we have scrying services available also.

Weird, I thought I'd sent in my turn earlier. I already did the turn, why didn't I send it it? Sigh.

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

sorry all, school and work have been hectic lately. I have been remiss in my admin duties. On that note, I have lost. Chelms can no longer resist the attacks of LA Pythium.

You all should thank LA Pythium for saving you from the unstopable late game strategy LA Man had in store! Oh well.

I am done for and should probably pass the admin torch on to an active player... any takers?

gotchaaa February 1st, 2009 11:39 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

In that case, Francis,or anyone who took over the admin duty, will you please delay the host time for me please?

I have been waited for the new trn file to come, but it seems that someone is holding on to the last minute. I have to go off now, and I wont be back before Thursday... Sorry.

If anyone doesn't have any objections I'm willing to take over as admin for this game from Francis. Just send me the admin password and I'll get right on it.

Shows up as turn 23 for me. Try getting a resend and see if that works.

Game: HumanWar
Turn number 22
Next turn due: 20:30 GMT on Tuesday February 3rd

That's Llamaserver. My Email and my comp can't do anything about that.....

Fakeymcfake February 1st, 2009 04:26 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Now that's really odd. I'm going to message Francis and try to get the admin pass from him and see if I can work something out. If not we'll just have to play 22 over and move on from there. Can't understand why it would send me 23 and you guys 22 though.

Looking at the issue you are having it seems to be the same one as we are having with Rothfuss.
It seems as if the Score Screens are for the proper turns.

Ummm, technically if we all have turn 22 (except Fakey?), then the scores are -not- for the proper turns, since they should always be for the current turn, no matter what monkey business happens with any rollbacks or whatnot.

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I just tried to submit the turn and it says it is for the wrong turn number. I guess we need llamabeast to take a look at that.

No offense guys, but I"m glad someone else is getting this.

But I've been complaining about this in madness, and people have been calling me an outright liar etc etc.

Three times I've tried to submit turns: wrong turn number.

I was sent the turn file for turn 23. However, the server is only accepting turn file 22. I'd assume this is the case for all folks.

This error seems to have affected HumanWar, Rothfuss and Solar. I've fixed it now, but I'm not sure what caused it. Hopefully there won't be further glitches.

Zeldor February 1st, 2009 06:39 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Hmm... and now it has my file for turn 22. I wonder what would happen if it hosted with that.

Fakeymcfake February 1st, 2009 07:19 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Alright I'm looking at the status page for HumanWar and it's saying turn 23, so I guess that whatever happened, Llama fixed it. If you received turn 22 request a resend and hopefully you'll get the proper turn.

Due to this confusion I'm going to postpone hosting 24 hours to ensure everyone has ample time to get their turns in.

I'm not winning yet :( I demand this problem be remedied immediately. Clearly the only solution is for T'ien Ch'i and MA Pythium should give me half of their respective empires each.
