Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

We may need a redo of that turn and/or some llamabeast help.

I did cast a global successfully and it did not appear. And it was rather an important one.

Zeldor March 14th, 2009 08:42 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

BTW, who is game admin now?

rdonj March 15th, 2009 01:12 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Wow, suddenly we have a lot of AI nations :/ I don't know if there even IS an admin for the game anymore.

Zeldor March 15th, 2009 07:48 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, we need him. I won't play my turn until the problem with my global is resolved. It was a HUGE investment and it is probably a matter of life or death for me in current situation.

gotchaaa March 15th, 2009 11:14 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

True. I agree that this bug should be solved.

rdonj March 15th, 2009 11:21 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

If we can't get ahold of the admin is it possible for llamabeast to set a new one?

Zeldor March 15th, 2009 12:12 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

No reply from llamabeast yet.

I think it will be fair to put more info about the problem, here it is:

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Ah. So I see that, should this spell be properly cast, I should counter by casting burden of time :D Nah, then you'd probably be the only person in the world with a decent income....

Zeldor March 15th, 2009 12:39 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

You meant Utterdark? I think that would kill Pythium :)

And I have never seen global not appearing. My caster is alive and fine [he has no icon for owning a global].

rdonj March 15th, 2009 01:51 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, burden of time would work too, just slower :P I just don't happen to have utterdark, whereas I do have burden of time.

LoloMo March 15th, 2009 11:19 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I'm willing to wait to have llamabeast look at this problem and have it resolved.

llamabeast March 17th, 2009 04:35 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Hey, this is a game issue rather than a server one, so there's nothing I can do I'm afraid. If you have any suggestions as to things I could do I'd be willing to help, but nothing springs to mind to me. I guess I could gather the files and send them to Illwinter.

llamabeast March 17th, 2009 04:44 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, the same thing happened again when I rehosted on my machine at home. I'll package up the files and submit it to Illwinter as a bug. Sorry it got you though, Zeldor, sounds pretty annoying.

llamabeast March 17th, 2009 05:16 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Submitted to Illwinter.

rdonj March 17th, 2009 06:20 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Thanks llamabeast :)

Zeldor March 17th, 2009 06:21 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Hmm... not nice... I have no idea what to do with that [I will PM you one thing that you can check], as that global was a huge investment for me and my way to defend against that invading neighbours :)

Zeldor March 17th, 2009 06:25 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

BTW, I think we need new game admin. Any volunteers? I'm admining 2 games already, so it's enough :) There is no way to abuse admin rights, so someone fighting me is OK too :)

rdonj March 17th, 2009 07:07 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, if we can't do anything about it, would a rollback so you at least keep the gems be sufficient? I could live with that, personally. I don't know about anyone else though.

I have no experience administrating games but if it's all very simple and straightforward I can probably do it. I keep weird hours though so if I end up being the admin people should make sure that if they need something done they say so well in advance of when they need it.

Zeldor March 18th, 2009 08:37 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Rolling turn back, so I can at least cancel that casting, will be required, I think. As rehosting does not help and globals insists on not showing there is not much else to do. I asked llamabeast to check 2 things, but they won't negate the need for rolling back :(

Crap... Maybe everyone will share their gold with me, so it will be almost like I had Nature's Bounty up? :D

gotchaaa March 19th, 2009 11:00 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

The turn rolled back? I haven't got any new turn file yet.

qio March 20th, 2009 05:29 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

So. If I don't get a 1k gold event if we rollback. Who do I get this cash from?

rdonj March 20th, 2009 10:16 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

No, I'm pretty sure it still hasn't done anything as we still don't have an admin. We are more or less stuck in limbo right now.

I guess you could pry it from arco's cold, dead AI hands, qio. It does suck losing gold events though. Actually I had 650 gold from events that turn also, plus I found a magic item. Hmm, I could really use that gold actually, I'm rather poor.

Zeldor March 20th, 2009 10:23 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Yeah, like it compares to me losing like 20k gold every turn from not working global + gems put into it :)

The volunteer for admin job should contact llamabeast, tell him what admin password he wants, and get to action.

rdonj March 20th, 2009 12:18 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Bleh :P Well, I did so. Unless there are any objections, I will be rolling back the turn at some point today if llamabeast sees my pm and sets me up as admin. I will wait at least 8 hours from now to do so.

rdonj March 20th, 2009 01:15 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Alright I am now officially the admin. I will now go and switch mine and zeldor's emails! Muahahaha.

Zeldor March 20th, 2009 07:48 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

So afaik you need to roll back the turn, only I send revised turn redoing that global and then you force host it. Shouldn't change much. And I wish it was not necessary :(

rdonj March 20th, 2009 08:59 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Yeah, that's a pretty crippling bug. Hopefully whatever caused that can be fixed for the next patch.

I also hope that you are the only one who needs to send in a new turn file for everything to work because it would be pretty bad if everyone staled too.

I'm not saying the situation is ideal. So instead of you then it is probably going to be me that gets punished as a result of a rollback. My loss interests me more than your loss. Yeah, I am very selfish - I know.

rdonj March 20th, 2009 10:33 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, it being longer than I said I'd wait and no actual requests to not go ahead with a rollback, I will be rolling the turn back in the next few minutes.

Edit: The turn has been rolled back. Zeldor, please advise when you have sent in your turn and I will force the hosting.

but why only TC is 'recieved 2h file' status?

llamabeast March 21st, 2009 09:44 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

The other 2h files are there and will be used. It's just the way the rollbacks work, so that you can see who's changed their turns.

rdonj March 21st, 2009 10:41 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Alright, done. You should all receive turn files momentarily.

rdonj March 21st, 2009 11:33 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, I managed another lucky event worth most of the money I was supposed to get, so I am not too unhappy about that. And zeldor didn't change any of the movement orders I can see, so I'm happy with that as well. Now if we can just get this turn done, I have a pretty big battle that's supposed to happen between me and the machaka AI this month that I really want to see the results of.

Zeldor March 21st, 2009 12:03 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Sorry to say that, but we need another rollback. I decided to cast Gift of Health isntead. And it didn't appear again.

llamabeast:
Could you maybe check if ANY nature globals are castable in that province? Without telling details here of course :)

rdonj March 21st, 2009 12:30 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Argh! You're telling me I have to rescript every single battlemage I have a THIRD time, zeldor?

archaeolept March 21st, 2009 12:31 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

look, weird sh*t w/ globals happens to everyone. I've certainly never had a rollback because of some strange global bug. But, of course, if the majority of players want one, that's their business. I understand that it is pretty painful to experience such a thing, though.

What rules for rollbacks do you wish to use? whenever someone has something they think is a bug, do they get a rollback? Globals have strange issues; everyone knows that, yet people still cast them anyways :)

eh, no doubt I just shouldn't say anything ;)

edit: Rdonj, you shouldn't have to redo anything - just use the same turn file.

double edit: Zeldor, why don't you submit your completed turn file to some neutral experienced third party, so that they can look at what is happening?

Zeldor March 21st, 2009 01:32 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I can maybe get along with that global not appearing, but I'd surely want to know if I am able to cast any globals. My whole defense strategy was based on putting Nature's Bounty up [GoH had to come turn after, now because of that bug I wanted to go the other way].

I hate that situation. I don't want bugs to solve the war. I wish I knew if I can wit it without putting more globals up. Maybe I can. Isokron has some experience fighting me, so he knows what to expect :) He has stronger nation that time though. Hmm... how about we continue and add 1-3 turns to our NAP? [I won't mind though if we continue just like that, I will cry a bit over my lost gems and global bonus :)]

Anyway, llamabeast sent turn files to Illwinter, as repeated hostings also made Bounty not appear. It may be some issue with the caster or province he is in or amount of gems used. No idea really. I'd like to know though if I'll be able to cast other globals [especially Bounty, with that caster]. That would be more important than another rollback, getting gems back, but getting a bigger mess.

rdonj March 21st, 2009 08:39 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Okay, well, for now I am not going to do a rollback. If you like I will be willing to turn off automatic hosting until we can get some kind of verdict as to whether you'll be able to cast other globals, if we can get some kind of testing done on that. Or we can just go ahead and play. Your call.

gotchaaa March 22nd, 2009 04:59 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Try not to use the same mage cast the global in the same province? And if we are debugging the game, just let us know so we don't waste time doing the same turn again and again...

rdonj March 22nd, 2009 12:04 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I'm still waiting on your word for what to do zeldor :P

Zeldor March 22nd, 2009 02:00 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I think we should get the situation solved, that is check if I can cast more globals. Or maybe somehow casting globals got disabled in that game? Llamabeast only has all files necessary to check it.

gotchaa:
I am strong, but not strong enough to have plenty N7 guys running around :)

rdonj March 22nd, 2009 03:10 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Okay, how are we doing the checking? I am not entirely clear whether you want to do it by doing repeated rollbacks, or if you mean llamabeast is checking it, or whatever.

Zeldor March 22nd, 2009 03:12 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Llamabeast can check it [still got no reply on my PM from him], as he has the files, so he can just host it few times, without sending out turn files etc, just work on copies.

rdonj March 22nd, 2009 03:38 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Alright. I will make sure the game doesn't host until we have an answer then, I guess.

rdonj March 24th, 2009 10:42 PM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I don't want to postpone this game indefinitely... that's pretty much the quickest way to kill interest in the game. I just delayed the hosting another 48 hours, but once this hosting interval is up I am inclined to start the game again.

LoloMo March 25th, 2009 03:10 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I wonder if anyone else can cast a global?

qio March 25th, 2009 03:43 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

I did, a dozen turns back. Anyways, I went AI. Lost interest in this game.

rdonj March 25th, 2009 04:49 AM

Re: HumanWar: Odd Man Out (Game On!)

Well, sounds like I'm going to be out pretty quickly then, surrounded by three AIs and 2 super powers :hurt:. Of course by the time the game starts back up maybe there won't be anyone left to fight, players seem to be dropping fast in this game.
