perhaps I was a little unclear in my earlier post, but I won't be able to submit turns for a while because of computer issues. Since, as Shinuyama rightly points out, I'm being crushed beneath the clawed heels of demons and monkeys, you could just set me to AI if you wanted, since the army-in-being should be scripted properly, as long as the AI doesn't do something stupid with it. (also assuming it wasn't destroyed this turn).

It's pretty much destroyed: 14 out of the 15 commanders died this turn. Regarding turning to AI, I thought it was the player that needed to give the "turn to AI command" and not the host?

Anyway, this has been a pretty epic war throughout. Thanks for the fun dojango: hopefully we'll get to do this again in another game in the future :)

i think ysko staled last turn, and may not have checked this thread, which is why they didn't delay to let you get squared away. he seems to be a busy dude.

i have no idea how to turn someone AI

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

In "Options", the top option is Become Computer Controlled. I have no ideas if the host has any ways to perform that, though.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Yeah, the player has to turn the nation AI, but since I don't have access to dominions anymore, I won't be able to do it, so the admin has to transfer my nation to someone else and they can set it to AI or watch has the nation slowly falls to the demon hordes.

Bummer about that army, I thought the new evoc spells would do the trick. Not enough blockers? Too much fatigue? Wish I could see the replay.

Pretty much all of those combined. I went for a surrounding strategy so some troops eventually did get through, decoy troops to take the first few spells, a few fire immune troops, and some of your mages did faint by the end of the fight.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

if machaka is out is there now way to set him ai? i guess that would mean we would have to wait for the turn to timeout each time?

parone March 26th, 2012 03:08 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

i was just messing around on llama server, and there is a 'force hosting now' button, which i guess we could use once machaka was the only one left. in order for machaka to go AI, they need access, like everyone says. but we could force hosting, but only with a password...

Zywack March 26th, 2012 03:16 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Two possible "solutions":

1) Yskonyn changes the e-mail address for Machaka, sends the turn to someone, that someone turns AI on, and resend the turn. It'd be preferable if it was someone not involved in the current game though: Whoever would get control of Machaka would get both intel and the possibility to send stuff to themselves.

2) Wait for timeout. I'm attacking Machaka's capital this turn and the other worthless province the turn afterward, so in theory AI control or not it won't really change anything beside about 30 resource worth of independents. However, we'd have to wait for the siege to finish so there's still going to a few turns at least before Machaka's completely wipeout... Which means some turns that would have to time out.

I'm fine with either decision's picked.

parone March 26th, 2012 03:33 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

me too. simplest solution, tho, i think, is 'force hosting now' once only machaka is left. if ysko is too busy, he can just give the password to someone honest(are you honest???) and they can force hosting.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I can turn Machaka AI if you'd like. There is no amount of intelligence that is going to save the Giants in this game :)

yskonyn seems very busy to me to force hotsing when only machaka left.

i already offered to share the admining with him, no answer yet.

Zywack March 26th, 2012 09:26 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

And so we have our first defeated faction... I'm a bit surprised it took that long! :) That explains why I heard nothing from Pangaea for so long.

Regarding Machaka... Did the turn get force-hosted? I thought it was due only some hours from now... So either I had my times wrong or Yskonyn is around.

Oh, I did promise to say what state Shinuyama was in when I took over... I suppose I can do that now for some aspects (but not all obviously):

I took over on turn 12.

-Shinuyama had a grand total of 3 territories.
-Judging by independent troop numbers, there's been some defeats to neighbooring provinces.
-No territories had been searched for sites.
-An army relatively equivalent to the starting army was sneaking 3 provinces away in another player territory with the prophet and 2 other generals. That country didn't neighboor us yet so I have no idea what was it's purpose.
-The home army was roughly similar to the sneaking army.

So yeah... that was a mind-numbingly horrible shock and a lot of regret for taking over. There were a few things that managed to salvage things somehow though:

- An event that gave me 60 bakamono sho on the first turn... They make militia look great comparatively, but at that point they were extremely welcome.
- 3 turns of unused income, so a fair amount of gold to jumpstart it.
- A completely blessed starting position that allowed me to have independent territories available even that late. It would have been an amazing position on day 1 to make an amazing expansion, but on turn 12 it allowed me to at least keep a few.
- An extremely suicidal army splitting and emergency expansion strategy for the remaining independents where I risked everything in a ton of battles each turn which I was afraid not to win but that all paid off (except for one). The militia merc and slime was key to my expansion, as stupid as it might sound.

So that's what I'm willing to disclose... The rest will have to wait until I'm doomed :)

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

We're glad you joined in. Rewarding also to sub into a bad spot and make a good position out of it. I'm learning that also. If you hang on or keep hanging in there between alliances, luck, other players, skill ,etc. a seemingly losing position can turn positive in a hurry.
Good job!!

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Ouch I really dropped the ball here, guys.
I was indeed very busy and just barely got my turns in.
I forgot to check this thread, though, and I am sorry if it has caused some inconvenience.

I did not force host any turns, so I am not sure what you mean Parone?
Could someone give a short update please, on where we're at?

About Machaka; I cannot put him on AI. He has to do it. Or otherwise someone who has been knocked out to prevent seeing intel.

Zywack March 27th, 2012 01:01 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I'd be fine with mattyburn7 doing the AI switch for Machaka: He volunteered, he's from this region of the world and Ashdod's days are extremely numbered either way.

For the force-host, Parone meant that after everyone's turn beside Machaka's is done, you could simply force-host the turn until Machaka's dead. If everything goes to plan (When does that ever happen?) it should be over in 3 turns or so. So it's your choice if you want to give Ashdod the turn (or give earcaraxe admin rights so he can do it if you are too busy), or force-host the turn when everyone's done or simply let it go the full 48 hours until they die.

only pangaea's turn missing. yskonyn, could u force hosting now? or perhaps blubbernaught if u could send in some kind of a turn, I'd thank that.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Uh? I got a message last turn that Pangaea was permenently vanquished last turn... Do "game-over" people still need to send turns even if they have no provinces left, or does that only happen on the first "dead turn"?

Groundworm March 28th, 2012 02:46 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

On the turn that you're defeated, you actually get a turn telling you "you're defeated". You actually do have to submit that turn to acknowledge to llamaserver that yes, you're defeated.

After that, you'll be removed from the game and won't have to submit any more turns. :)

I've resolved my computer difficulties and am sending in my turns on schedule, so don't worry about switching me to AI. I been using the turns to tweak my scripts to cause maximum damage to my conquerors.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

the Machakan mages are like the jaguar warriors or skinshifters; they change into spiders instead of dying, and change back after the battle is over (if they survive). Unlike Mictlan's turkeys or shinuyama's crazy cat ladies, they can't change at will.

Also, going AI, good game, sorry I couldn't crush you all beneath my spider's feet.

They retain 50% of their casting abilities. Their spider form have 55 hit points, so you can have a bunch of them cast earthquakes and you don't have to be worried about losing any of them. Plus, your various spiders have high HP so your armies will be in a better state than your opponents (beside giants maybe) if you actually decide to send an actual army along in the battle instead of a hit-and-run squad.

The problems though is that your mages that can turn into spiders are capital-only and that going into spider state means losing 100% of your base hit points so afflictions are quite likely. So it's not a game-breaking strategy or anything, but... It's certainly extremely nasty in the right circumstances (or from my point of view, wrong circumstances).

I can't speak to Ulm of course, but I can vouch that friendly and peaceful Shinuyama will be extremely kind to the Machakan population, except for a strict "no spider allowed" policy of course. Hopefully Ulm will be doing the same!

Anyway, good game Machaka and Ashdod! Looking foward to play with you in some other game in the future hopefully!

Yeah, I was wondering :) You mentionned that we should get to see something epic this turn. And yet, when I got the save file, I immediately noticed that it's size was absolutely tiny... And for good reason: It's the most boring turn I got since I joined. Not a single battle to watch, either my own or seen through scouts, one single irrelevant event, no sites found, absolutely nothing of interest happening. I was pretty disapointed especially since there's been some epic battles to watch lately, but...

I'll keep my hopes up that your show will happen and be as amazing as advertised! As long as the show means an epic battle to watch and not you putting up a game-breaking global enchantment, anyway.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Well... that was embarassing...

For some reasons, I thought that troops who tried to break out from a siege and retreated returned inside the castle instead of dying. So I ended up waiting two turn to prepare a final safe attack while there actually was a single guy inside the castle... Well, live and learn I suppose!
