I'm sorry, but I have to bow out. A catastrophy hit my computer while I was upgrading my Windows 2000 to Windows XP; during the installation, something happened to my computer, that had effectively screwed up my computer; whenever I tried to continue the upgrade to Windows XP, or just boot up Windows 2000, a blue screen of death poped up, screaming Unmountable Boot Volume or something like that, and would not let me access my own computer. Booting in Safe mode did not help, nor did booting in any other advanced startup modes.

In the end, I was forced to format my hard disk and install XP from scratch. Seeing as how I had upgraded 2000 to XP without any errors in the past, I had assumed that this time would be no different, and did not make any backups of anything.

Everything I had is gone: My MP3 collection is gone, all my textures are gone, all my models are gone, everything I had created and stored and did not upload to the web is gone.

I'm sorry for any inconvience I now have caused this project.

Before you get too far... I suggest reformatting again, and creating 2 partitions. Make one of them 6 GB, call it C. Make the other the rest of the drive, call it D or something. Install ONLY Windoze on the C drive. Install everything else on D, and save all files on D. When Windoze fails in the future, all you have to do is reformat the C partition and reinstall Windoze. All data will still be there on the D partition.

Oh, and throw XP away. Go back to 2000. It is definitely better than XP...

You should still do hard data back ups just to be extra safe. You never know when its your hard drive and not XP.

I feel for ya, TerranC... I was back home Last week and was absolutely ecstatic to find that I still had loads of artwork from SE4, as well as about 500 pages worth of stories and such that I had written over the years. I burned all of onto a CD, brought it home, and found that nothing had actually been burnt onto the CD -it was still blank. I hadn't bothered to check because I was in a big hurry to get about 13 CDs of stuff burned before I had to go to the airport (and if you're wondering, NONE of them worked). To make matters worse, I'd agreed to delete the stuff off my parent's computer since it was taking up so much space.

Anyway, as for the main topic of this post, I'd be interested it popping in a model if I can find the time. Right now I'm just trying to provide Aaron with a reasonably constant stream of new component pics, and frankly doing a rather lousey job of it at the moment (sorry!).

But if I get stuck for ideas on components, I might throw in a Battleship or something...

Okay, back to the matter at hand again.
How's our ragtag fleet doing? How far are we and which designs are still missing?

Will the rag-tag fleet use the old ships or the new series ones (if they exist). Just joking http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

And make the D partition FAT, not NTFS - that way if you ever decide to switch to Linux, you won't have a hassle getting your data to the new system http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Thats my arrangement, altho I have 2 seperate drives. C: was purchased with stability and warranty as main choice factors. D: was purchased for size and speed. I really think that arrangment is why I have no problems running older games that other people complain wont run on their WinXP. C: being NTFS is great for the Win OS and windows applications like Word or Excell, and any really new super-package applications. D: being FAT (well FAT32 actually) seems to be great for all my never-die favorite games, old disc management software that I dont want to give up and learn something new, etc etc.
