Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
Has anyone ever encountered a bug where an planet simply WOULD NOT convert its atmosphere? I colonized the planet, immediately built a space yard III, an atmopheric modification plant III, and then 4 Monolith III's. However, I'm postive that it has been way more than the required 20 turns to change the atmosphere, and nothing has happened!! All other planets int the system have converted their atmospheres by now, along with all the colonies in several other systems that I colonized AFTER the original system. By the way, I'm trying to convert the atmosphere of a Hydrogen Rock planet, to being None Rock. Its not a gas giant or anything, where you can't convert to a None atmosphere type. Any suggestions?

Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
I will be asking the dumb question: is the population on this planet mainly None breathers? Having a majorityr of Hydrogen breathers would both prevent Atmosphere ConVersion and would dome the planet.
Besides this, I have no clue about your problem. |
Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
Yep, the population of the planet is entirely None breathers. That is, if you can say that people who occupy planets with no atmosphere "breathe" at all!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
That's exactly why I hate this none-breathers [censored],
If they don't need an atmosphere indeed they DO NOT breathe at all, so they could life on planets with ALL kind off atmospheres, not only the none ones !!!!!!! |

Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
Not breathing an atmosphere doesnt mean they will work well in it. Some may be corrosive to them or massively slow them (no-atmosphere race in water?), or not like what it does to sound and light, or they just might find the ugly swirling colors to be distracting. Im sure they would prefer to dome out any atmosphere.

Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
I could go with yet another silly question: did you build an Atmosphere Converter I instead of the III level? (Don't laugh, but I am known to build lower-grade facilities from time to time) It would imply less than 30 turns went by however, as otherwise this nice theory goes down the drain.
I suppose there is nothing "odd" with this planet? (Such as plagues, planet destroying events, and the like) No problems with having too many facilities/storage used compared to the "standard" values for a domed planet? No strong movement of settlers strongly opposed to altering the ecosystem of the planet? |
Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
You also can't convert a Gas Giant to None atmosphere...

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot change the type of a planet through Stellar Manipulation, but only its atmosphere. At least, I have been unable to transform Rock planets into something else in NGC5 (after a couple of tries). Either I have been unlucky, or it cannot be done. |
Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
Oh yeah, you can defintely change the type of a planet by destroying it and rebuilding it. The planet type and atmosphere type is random for built planets. Size is fixed. resource value is fixed. Not sure about conditions. But type and atmosphere are random.

Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
You are correct about Planet Shaping; I have simply been highly unlucky in that game. Even when testing, six tries were required before I managed to change the type of the planet (atmosphere was changed without problem).

Re: Atmospheric ConVersion Bug??
Some irraidated planets will not convert.
