Asking for opinions....

Well, the Har'Ku shipset I was nearly finished with was lost in the recent demise of my Hard Drive. I was talking to a friend tonight about it while sitting around over at her house watching Star Trek: Voyager. I figured I can rebuild them, but that's gonna be a time-consume project that's fristrating to me right now.

Then she made a comment of sheer genius, and gave me an inspiration at the same moment.

She commented that "they (the Har'Ku) must've been one of the races destroyed by the Krenims time ship..."

So, I decided to give a shot at doing the Krenim for a bit...

Here's my first and rough draft models of a Krenim ship and small fighter. I'd like to know what you think of it and if you have any ideas or suggestions.

And here it is against a black background.

Woo shiny. Got a real sense of scale to it, and that bit claw-weapon thingy on the front just looks plain dangerous.

Very impressive. This would also look very cool in 3D for SE V. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I like it. Looks different from any I can remember seeing. Variety is good.

Dark, threatening and purple. Great combination.

Re: Asking for opinions....

The hull of the fighter is textured too much for a single person craft. It makes it seem bigger than my idea of a fighter.

I love the weapon design and the purple and shadows lighting on them. I would hate to have to be behind the windows facing the nose beam, but love the ones around the main body.

Those models look great. Excellent work!

The first one looks great. The second one doesn't, sorry.

Re: Asking for opinions....

I think they look great. Though for me they are against bright backgrounds. Against black space, they'd be nearly impossible to see.

I like both.

Re: Asking for opinions....

Very nice. Though I think they're quite a bit too dark. As PvK said, they'd be nearly impossible to see in game.

Re: Asking for opinions....

Thanx for the feedback, positive and negative.

I had the feeling I was on the right track with the ship, but wasn't certain about the fighter. Looks like that prototype won't be getting the contract after all.

Thanx AT, that's high praise indeed, coming from the definitive master of shipsets ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Asking for opinions....

Thanks, but while I made a lot of ship sets, I am no master. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif The quality of other sets far exceed anything that I could do. John B's alone were some very impressive sets among many designers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

But thanks anyways. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Very nice work there, Blackie

Let's see more http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

OK, and the fighter darkness thing. The body looks so dark because there are no lights on it. Do some highlights/trim/paint or something to sort of outline it a bit, and it'll be fine.

Krenim Fighter redux

Revamped the Krenim fighter concept a bit. Here it is for your assessments.

I like it a lot. I think it'll be much more visible now against the black background in game. Good work! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Asking for opinions....

Much better, although it still bears a sad resemblance to a grape.

Puke September 9th, 2006 06:42 PM

Re: Asking for opinions....

I consider it more of a happy resemblance to a grape. A vengeful temporal grape of doom, that is.

Very nice redesign on the fighter. Much improved.

Re: Asking for opinions....

Grapes go squish.

TurinTurambar September 11th, 2006 11:57 AM

Re: Asking for opinions....

I like both, but I think that the scale of the texture on the fighter needs to be modified so it doesn't match the larger vessel. It makes the fighter look just like the mid-section of the other.
